Finally got my 3" rancho install complete on my 01 cc 4.7 5-speed. It took 2.5 days instead of 1 because rancho sent my installer a kit that had 2 right side tranny crossmember brackets instead of a right and a left. My first thoughts on easy city stop and go driving, ride is awesome! A little stiff, (what I expected for a performance off-road suspension) but still very user friendly. Had a few creaks, nothing I am worried about, I think just needs to be broken in. My biggest concern is front fender wells, right behind new brake lines, there is now a large gap exposing the bottom of my engine compartment .I am thinking I will be throwing snow, dirt, mud all over my engine and intake. I will be taking back to installer tomorrow to see if they missed either a rancho part or my oem parts. Maybe this normal???? Anyways, look and stance is awesome, couldn't have wiped the smile off my face today with a sandblaster. Many thanks to ForexFour, great site and pics. As wierd as it sounds, now it's time to go pound the crap out of my truck!

Congradulations!!! I hope you like it. I am not to sure about the gap in the engine area. I know on the passenger side there was always alot of engine showing without the lift.

I am going to pound on mine some more this weekend! Have fun and be careful!!!

Got a question abou tthe rancho lift, what stage lift is it? I am clueless about the stages, but have a 03 dakota, 4x4, 4.7, 5 speed. Any help on what stages mean and what are available would be a big help. Hey Donny, you change the tires on it? I hear with the 3" you can fit 33"s on it without any problems, thats my plan.

I can't answer your question about stages, not really sure what you are talking about. As far as tire size, there are a ton of threads on this site about tire size with lifted daks. Torsion adjustment, backspacing, trimming, and frame rub may come into play. I am running 285/75/16 which manufacture says is 32.8 by 11.3. No fender or bumper clearance issues, maybe small rub at full lock. Not sure, might be normal binding with this lift.

donnybb: congrats! Make sure you change out your
ball joints (4). Bigger tires put lots of stress on ball
joints, and IMO stock ball joints aren't up to snuff. This
has happened to me, and I had to do all 4 plus pitman
arm. and idler arm. HEADS UP! Happy wheelin'!!
would reccomend Moog's.

bow hunter, thanks for the advice. I know I am a lurker, but this site has been awesome for research. I know about the crappy ball joints on our daks, and moog seems to be the best option. Since I walk to work everyday (amazing decrease in every day commuter miles) my truck has way low miles. Lift installer said my oem ball joints were fine, no problems with alignment. Again, thanks for the heads up!!! I will keep a close eye.

Beware that the MOOGS are a little larger and will decrease the the gap between the tire and the ball joint. FYI.

Thanks for the reply and advice, forexfour. I thought I saw on your site you had minor rubbing between your tires and ball joints, but didn't hamper your offroad adventures. guess it is time to visit your homepage

The MOOG's have a larger head on it so it takes up more space. The upper ball joint was relocated to be pretty much right next to the center of the tire rubber. My 285x75x16's I had rubbed the white raised lettering. Before that I had just a little clearance between. This is why I run 33x10.5x15's. I do not want to change the Back space and go with custom rims since I like none of the option and I am not out for looks.

Bad angle but this is what it looks like. Stock ball joint tire not compresses (still in the Air)

I will post a better photo when the sun gets out so I can take one.

Yeah, fourxfore, you da man! I crawled under my truck, and holy crap!! The distance between my upper ball joint and the fat part of my tire is paper thin. Checked out some of your site again, so it seems, my only option, if I have to go with moogs, is a rim with 5" backspacing. stock rims are 5.5" am I at least in the neighborhood?

The Backspacing is stock at 5.5" I think 4.5 to 4" would be ideal but if you want to run the 12.5's you will have to take the plunge and drop to 3.5 or less BS and deal with outer rub problems and more stress on the front end.

Remember the further out your tire is the more change to the turn radius your tire has in the well. This fixes frame rub but causes outer fender rub. UGH!!!

I do wear my mud with pride but everyone behind me curses me as the chunks fall!
