Subject: What's the difference?
IP: Logged

Message:
I bought a 03' 2x4 3.9L Quad Cab and I want to put a lift kit on it. I read in Truckin Magazine that www.truckinsuspension has a lift kit up to 9" for the dakota. After reading these message boards it doesn't seem like anyone else has a lift over 3". So is it possible to get a lift that high? My next question, because I know jack about vehicles, is what is the difference and/or what is better between a suspension lift kit and a body lift kit or can you have both? Which is better for ride quality yet will give me the "off road look"? Also when choosing tires, how do you know what size to get? One more thing, will either of this kits affect being able to put a brush guard on? I appreciate your info. Thanks for showing me the way.

From what I hear the truckin suspension lifts are crap and often come with holes in the wrong places, etc. A body lift simply lifts he body 2-3" off the frame , given it a raised look and making it possible to run up to 33" tires. A suspension lift is the way to go but are expensive and are costly to install also. You don't want to go with too much of an off-road look unless you are really off roading, because your street ride wont be as comfortable. hope this helps

You have many questions.

Truckin Susupension or AIM Industries lifts are not really backed by this board. You will find a few who have them but you will also find a few who had them and wish they did not.

The Rancho 3" suspension lift is the best out there right, they are a very reputable company, now but because of the 4 wheel disc brake on the '03 it wont work.

There are lots of considerations for rims and tires depending on what you want your truck to look like. Backspacing and tire width for the most part are what you are going to change and they will change the stance look depending on what you change.

I think a 3" PA body lift is the only way to lift your truck as of now. Youcan always go with Truckin if you like.

Body lifts have there pros and cons just like a suspension lift. Since you are looking only for the off road "look" as you posted go with the body lift since It is really your only option.

Be fore warned though if you have not seen one then you should see one in person. not the photos that you will see posted around. Big difference when you see them in the right light and not shawdowed.

You need to see that you will have frame showing and you will use gap gaurds for the back wheel wells so you do not see right through.

A suspension lift for the '00-'02's are permenant due to the relocation of crossmembers and such but it can be done with the right tools.

JROD, your post says you have a 2x4 so the rancho and truckin lifts wont work for you. Other then a boby lift, I dont know if you have any other options.

Hey thanks everyone for your comments. It is confusing if you don't know what to look for. You guys made it a lot easier. I'm probably going to go with the body lift (after I see a truck up close - forexfour- )Again thank you for the info.
