I want to add a 3 in lift to my 4x2 truck. I'll probably go with a body lift, as the suspension lifts are a lot more expensive. I do have a few questions tho:

1. I know of two options to lift the rear. Shackles and an axle flip kit. From what I hear the axle flip gives around 5" lift and shackels are limited to 2". What other method would give a 3" lift?

2. I'm thinking the PA 3" lift for the front would be the easiest and cheapest way to get the front end up. Will I have to remount to bumper? If so, how hard is this to do yourself and are there any other modifictations I would need to do as well?

3. I'm planning on keeping the stock rims for a while, so would it look too goofy running 31's on them? I'd like to run 33's but I don't think they'd fit under a 3" lift without further modification.

4. Would there be a noticable power drop running a 31 to 33" tire with the 3.9 V6?

I can't answer the 1st 3 questions - I can certainly answer the last question on tire size.

It WILL negatively impact your ability to accelerate or tow to go from a stock tire size (probably 28" diameter) to a 31" or 32" diameter tire. In effect, going to a taller tire numerically decreases your rear end gear ratio. If you are running 3.55's gears with "28's", you will, in effect, be running about 3.10 with 31's. On top of that, the 3.9 is not the most powerful engine on the planet to begin with.

I suggest you go to Randy's Ring and Pinion webseite and use his calculators to get a better picture of how tire size affects gear ratios and RPM's.
