Subject: 3" Body Lift Pics - 2wd IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, just thought I'd share some before and after pics from my 3" PA body lift.
http://coastalkota.tripod.com
I know alot of people ask about lifting a 2wd, so this will give you an idea what it looks like. I DID NOT install the lift myself, so I can't help too much with installation questions, but I'll try to answer anything I can. If you guys looking to do this want some pictures of anything in particular on the truck, I can post them to my website, or I can email them. I added new tires yesterday and they are Bridgestone Dueler AT's. Those tires are 2 inches taller (1.8 actual) than stock, so I have 5" of lift total. I plan to add the 3" Fabtech lift soon and put on 33's, so I'll be upgrading my rims then (people keep asking me about the rims, but I don't think they look bad.) Let me know what you think.
(BTW, the website is free on Tripod, and if too many people view the website (exeed the bandwith I'm allowed) Tripod will take the page down for a few hours, so if you don't see it, try later)

Message: ok first off you have a nice truck bro keep up the good work...second you dont have 5 inches of lift. yes your truck is prolly 5 inches taller than stock but your tires being to inches taller than stock doesnt compensate for more lift.

Message: 5" taller overall is correct. 3" lifts the body off the frame (PA body lift) and 2" lifts the axles off the ground (2 inch taller tires).
Thanks for the compliment Drew, I have plenty more to do!!!!

Message: Hello there , this is basic math here , and I just wanted you to know that unless you are running 35s , you do NOT have and extra 2 inches under the axles , you only have one (.9 really).
If you had 31s and went to 33s you have an extra inch of clearance.
If you had 31s and went to 36s you would have 2.5 inches or clearance.
You only gain half of the total extra height.
Thank you for your co-operation now try and fix you site.

Message: Bro, lets see that truck....what gives???? How did that other dude see it?
Basic Math, how do you figure you only get half genius? If a tire has a diameter of 31 inches then a tire that is 33 inches in diameter is 2" larger in diameter. That's 2 inches more rubber around the entire tire, pushing his truck up in the air 2 inches more.
Lets put it this way, if you have a pipe that is 31 inches in diameter and you have a hole in the drywall that is 33 inches in diameter, you don't go buy a 32 inch pipe to fit the hole, now do you??? You buy a 33 inch pipe, cause it's 2 inches larger in diameter and would fit the hole.
Go back to math school........LOLOL

basicmath is correct. My bad. I suck at math. Anyway, truck sits 4" higher than stock. That's still not too shabby :-) I'll be going even higher soon!

Message: Diameter, please tell me youre not serious?? If so you truly are a moron.
First of all, since you obviously dont know, I'll tell you what diameter is, by definition it is the length of a straight line passing through the center of a circle and connecting two points on the circumference.
If you have a 31" tire and increase the diameter to 33", you DO NOT have an extra 2 inches all the way around. As basicmath said you only have half of that, because the other gained inch is sitting above your axles. If you dont believe us just ask your Math teacher when you get to school tomorrow.
It's better to have people think you're a moron, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Message: Actually, it's radius, not circumference, that is important ... the radius of the tire would be the distance from the axle centerline to the ground. And, of course, be sure to take into account the deflection of the tire at the ground due to the weight of the truck (the bottom 'radius', below the axle, is effectively shorter than above the axle) .... so, in actuality, you're probably only gaining 0.4 to 0.6 inches of clearance under the axle by going from 31" diameter to 33" diameter (depending on how manyy Double Quarter Pounders with Cheese you've been eating lately). Wow ... and here I thought that Vehicle Dynamics class at Penn State was gonna go to waste. :oP

Message: Sorry Kevin, but if you read my first post, you will see that I DID NOT install this lift myself, but would be willing to take photos of anything you wanted to see on the truck. It's very simple to install if you have the tools and a garage. I don't have either, so I had a shop do it. Thanks for the compliment though. Plenty more work to do!!

Message: Good job on the body lift Coastal Kota, where are you located? I was wondering, are the 31's the biggest size you think you can fit with just the body lift only, without the rubbing? I have the 16" rims and I am anticipating a 3 “body lift this week and in about 2 months the 3" suspension lift. I just wanted to get the tires before I get the suspension lift.

Message: Troublemaker,
I'm in Florida. 31's are the biggest tire I could fit without rubbing using my stock 15x7 wheels.
I could have gotten 32's on it if I had some aftermarket rims with a shorter backspace, but still may have needed some minor trimming of the plastic in the fender wells.
Sometime soon after Christmas, I plan to add the 3" suspension lift and at that time I'll upgrade the rims (to either 15x8 or 16x8) and 33's will fit. It seemed more cost effective not to spend the extra $$ on 32's right now, since I'll be paying for 33's in a few months. And I'll have an easier time selling my 31's, cause a stock 4x4 can run those and I'll only have a few thousand miles on them.
Thanks for the kind words on my truck. I have a long way to go, but I think it'll be worth it!

Try http://www.truckinsuspension.com/
They have a 3" lift kit for the front of your 91 Dak. Then, you just need to choose a way for lifting the back. (lots of choices for the back)

Message: I was wondering, I have somebody who is selling some 2000 15 x 8 4x4 rims, and I was wondering if these would work on my 2x4 ? I want to get bigger tires and I think I can get the size I want with the 15" rims but Im not sure they will fit on my 2003 2x4 Dakota.
Any info will help
Thanks
