If you want to lower it you can. Your axle is on top of your springs not under them.

You need to purchase whats called "add a leafs" they are just extremely bent and strong leafs that go on the bottom of your leaf springs. they basically give your leaf springs more of an arc.

Or shackles would work. I went that way. Won't cause any stiffness that add-a-leafs do.
