Subject: 3" body lift on 03 or 04 QC IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone installed the 3" body lift from Performance Accessories on a 2003 or 2004 Quad Cab? PA fitment is from 00-02. Were there any changes to the Dakota between 02 and 03 that would prevent the kit from working on the 03-04 model?
Thanks. Pete

Message: They changed to 4 wheel disc brakes for those years (instead of rear drum). That may cause problems, but I'm not sure.

Message: Melvin,
Thanks for the info and the pictures. Your truck looks great. I already purchased AR 17x8" rims, but have not been able to select tires because of this body lift situation. Now that I am pretty sure it will work for me too, I'm going with 285/70R17 BFG's. They're almost 33" and should not rub with the lift.

Message: I just installed the PA 3" lift on the 04 Quad Cab and it went just fine. Everything fit perfectly including the steering extention. FYI - the PA instructions are bit unclear. I recommend talking to someone who has done the lift recently to get a few tips.
Does anyone out there know if there is a way to recalibrate the speedo for oversized tires? I'm running 33x11.5 BFG T/A KO's (285/70R17 to be exact) and would like to get a more accurate reading on the speedometer.

Message: Tru speed Calibrator from Superlifts. It has 2 settings you can adjust and if you swp tires for on road and off road use you can have each so they are accurate. Down side is that to calibrate accuratly you need a GPS or something to gauge your speed accuratly since the # of turns they tell you do not necessarily cal it accuratly.
Or a Superchips programmer will let you set you pcm to the new tire size but it only measures in inches and not the metric so it will still be off.
I run 285x55x16 and 33x10.5x15 and the speedo is off when I change tires. They are both pretty much a 33.

Message: Thanks for the info.
I've been on the phone all morning with different customer service people trying to find the best option. In addition to the truspeed, I've been told that a Jet Performance chip can make adjustments for the larger tires and recalabrate the speedo and add 20+ hp.
Is there any truth to the Jet claims?

Message: Superchips programmers do the same thing but also read error codes and defines them. Provides Performance setting and Towing settings to increase HP and Torque.
They do nto make them for the 4.7's but all others.

Message: Forexfour, you mean 285/75-16's are the same height as 33-10.50-15's instead of 285/55-16's, but we know what you meant. By the way, I love your website. Keep up the good work!

Message: I spoke to a rep at Superchips and found out some interesting info. Apparently the new Dodge Ram/Durango 5.7 Hemi and the Dakota 4.7 share the same exact computer. Superchips has been working on a chip/tuner setup since early summer and expects to release it by mid-Feb '04. Cost will be around $430.00. It will be capable of recalibrating speedo for tire and gear changes as well as provide variable mapping for 87 octane gas through race fuel. It will also eliminate the speed limiter, raise the rev limiter and, as forexfour stated above, be able to read trouble codes. Sounds like a good investment to me.
Oh yeah, coincidentally, Jet has a similar chip coming out mid-Feb as well.
Thanks again.

Message: Mopar,
Actually I really f'd that one up.
I run 255x85x16 which is a 33x10x16 for the street.
285x75x16 is more of an almost 33x11.5x16.
I stand really corrected!!!

Message: I think you'll be O.K. parts wise. The only bad thing is that you won't have the instructions for the 4.7. There are not many differences though. On a 4.7 I know for a fact you have to add an extension in the LOWER radiator hose. Also, on a 4.7 before you can crank the cab up, the lower part of the fan shroud has to be cut to clear the fan or removed like I did. If you remove it, you won't have any problems since you have electric fans too. I haven't had any problems running hot in traffic or 'wheelin'. You will have some extra parts left, like the 4x4 lever extension and the shifter extension. The main thing to think about(on the cab especially) is before you jack it up, make sure that all lines, hoses, and wiring are not in a bind. You are in luck with your model. It has an electronic transfer case knob on the dash, and an electronically controlled transmission(so it has wiring harnesses for both. A good rule of thumb is to completely go over the truck first and check anything that might bind when you jack it up. You can either do the cab first, by using two floor jacks and jacking up evenly on both sides, and then the bed. Or do like I did. Do the bed first, but only one side at a time. This will keep you from scratching the paint between the bed and the cab. Good Luck.

Message: I bought the 3"PA b/lift for my 03 clubcab. The part # on the box was up to 02. You don't need to weld the 3" extension on the 03 because our transfer case is shifted by vacuum control( dial on dash). It took me only 8 hrs to install mine by myself.

Message: I installed the 3" lift on a 2004 Quadcab 4.7L. It was not difficult, but the directions were not completely accurate. I didn't disconnect the fuel filler hose before I lifted the bed. I didn't install the extention on the lower radiator hose either. I did cut the bottom of the fan shroud without removing it. Just go slowly and you won't have any problems. FYI-use 2 scissor jacks, put 1 on each tire and lift from inside the wheel well.

Message: Pja, did your lower radiator hose not crimp? Mine did. It crimped enough that I thought it might restrict coolant flow. Maybe it's different on my '01?
