Subject: i need help again (gears) IP: Logged
Message: i thank everyone for the help they have given me so far in making the correct choices for my truck. here is my new problem. i added a 3in. body lift with 32in. BFG all-terrains. when going up hills on the highway in overdrive it boggs down real bad. by the way its a V6/5speed. i have a mowing business i run in the summer and pull about a 1500lb. trailor everyday. i know gears is the way to go, but can't decide between 3.90 or 4.10. does anybody run these combos. where can you get a set of gears and how hard are they to swap out. any info will help. thanks.

Message: Depends on your truck.
2WD: sky is the limit. all kinds of gears available.
4WD(prior to 2000): sky is the limit. all kinds of gears available.
4WD (2000 and newer): OEM gears are the only ones available for the front, limiting you to 3.90's.

Message: I'm not sure for a V6, but I would go with a 4.10 since you don't have the power of a V8. I have 3.92's with 33's and I could be a little happier with 4.10's... and that's with my 4.7!

Message: I hate to be an ass and turn the subject around, but TallQuad what kind of R's are you turning on the freeway. I have a daily commute of 30 miles each way and was thinking of stepping it up and getting some 33's but I wasn't sure if the truck would like it.
BTW, I have a 2002 4.7L 4x4 w/3.92's and HD service group, and towing group, if it matters.

Message: Thats pretty close to what I have! I haven't written down what the new rpm's are yet, but plan to this week. But, I think I'm around 2900-3000 @70. Mine is a 5spd so that is in 4th gear. 5th is a little sluggish but I can still use it. I'll give you some exact figures next time I drive it!
Overall, it's not bad at all! You just need to rev a little higher, plus I got use to the 3.92's with the stock tires and I miss the RAW quickness! hehe.
