Subject: Extending 4wd lever IP: Logged
Message: There is a body lift in the mail on its way to my house. I have a 2000 4wd and I know since the body will be lifted my 4wd lever will be almost gone. What can I do to extend it up to where I can still use it? What other stuff do I need to worry about extending?

Message: I also have 3 1/2" flowmasters coming straight out that back, how will that be affected during/after the lift?

Message: I don't know for sure if it's the same as mine, I've never messed with a 2000. But on mine I just got a piece of all-thread (threaded rod) and a coupler nut with the same thread as your shifter, cut the all-thread to the length that you want your shifter to be at, use some lock-tight and couple it to the threads where the shifter knob used to be and then screw the knob to the end of all-thread, your shifter boot will cover it up and it won't look any different than stock. As for your exhaust it will just hang that much lower off the body than it did before the lift. It will not change the sound or performance, just the look. The only other extension that you have to worry about is the steering extension and mine went in very smoothly on the first try. But I've heard of a lot of guys who had a real hard time with it.

Message: Mine also came with the extension for the shifter but it didn't seem worth the trouble to put it in. Using all-thread requires about 10 minutes of your time and not everyone has a welder in their garage. I've had no problems and the lift has been in for a year.

Message: Ric ... the 4wd lever is attached to the body and it will move up 3" with the lift. Brit is correct in having to extend the transfer case linkage. I think that 97GreenDak is talking about the shifter if you have a manual. I'm currently having a problem with this and broke my linkage trying to bend it after the extension as welded in. There are some guys who have not had to put in the extension. I'm picking up my new linkage tonight and will hopefully have it fixed soon. I'll let you know what comes of it.
Go here to read about the lever problem
You also may need to extend the radiator hose, but you should read that this can be a problem too.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you.
