Subject: WHY WONT THESE COILS GO ON?!?!?! IP: Logged
Message: Well, today I got off work early and was in the "work on my truck" mood. I picked up some extended coils (about 1 1\4" over stock, to make a 2 1\2" lift, they are also a little stiffer
). Well, I jacked up the front and proceded to take the tire off. Next, I took out the shock (The top nut was a pain in the A$$). Next, I put the coil spring compressor in and started cranking on it, BUT about the time it started to grab, the long bolt on it hit the top shock mount. So I took it out and tried a new approach. I started to take the lower spindle mount nut off, but first, I couldnt get the pin out, after I got it out I the nut came off easily, but i couldnt get anything to move. I was out of ideas, so I put it all back together and went home for supper.
What the heck do I need to do to get that stupid coil off. Is there another way that I dont know about? Do I need the spring compressor? Any help will be great.
Thanx

Message: Also, how do I get the spindle off.
I think I;m pretty mechanically inclined, I just don't know what I'm doing wrong, Or not at all.

Message: What exactly are you putting coils on for? How are they giving you a 2 1/2 inch lift? Just wondering, do you have IFS or a solid axle? The top nut of the shock isn't a problem, just clamp a vice grip real tight on the piston so it doesn't turn.

Message: Yeah, I did clamp a vice grip on the rod, that worked very well, but it still was a pain. I have got IFS. The extended coils will push the A-Arms down, wich will lift it. I still don't know how to take the old coils out, or put new ones in.

Message: I have the installation instructions from my Daystar Coil spacers at home. I'll bring them into work tomorrow, scan them and email to you. Disassembly is the same weather you change the coil or add a spacer.

Message: Are you using a coil compressor? You can rent one at Kragens or most other automotive shops.

Yeah im using a coil compressor, the bolt on it is to long and it hits the shock mount.
But anyway, read my next post on this board.

Message: Can you flip them upside down to get more clearance for the compressor? Had the same problem when i was doing that on my Tacoma.
