Congradulations on your making the leap! I wish there were more of us gutsy enough to do it. Don't know about the cost for an install as I too installed my own (95' ext cab). I did this 2 years after the 2" body lift. It is scary cutting out that crossmember, but once you are past that, the rest is down hill.

Depnding on how wide a tire you go with, you can increase your back-spacing (from the recommended 3.25, go up to 4"s). This will reduce how much rubbing you encounter at the rear of the wheel opening. I currently have the 33x10.5x15 BFG A/T KOswith 589s. I could have used something with a bit more backspacing (ie closer to 4"s). Moving up to 12.5 wide will possibly rub the upper control arm. Maybe the store will let you test fit several tires. They should, you will have spent enough cash at one time!! You should get Christmas cards while your bull Sh!tt!n'.

Good luck.

Hi there. A Gen Ier here. Glad to see someone else is going to hook up their older style dak. cant want to see how it turns out. Send me a pict. to joelliott82@hotmail.com
And good luck with the install...

otherbill, I am about to do a few mods to my 2wd and start looking for some 33x10.50s BFG at or mts. Just saw you run them and wanted to know how you like them? And if you dont mind, how much you paid for them. I know I could get a set from 4wheelpart for alittle over $500. mounted and all. Well, talk to both of you later. Have a ncie evening.

Hey "other Bill",about how long did the install take? I am a professional mechanic, and my friend at work was talking to me about helping out;the plan would be to do the install on a saturday at the shop, that way we have air tools, and a lift.We need to get it done in one day though. What are the odds with two of us working on it? Thanks..

I really like the ATs. They are quiet, yet get traction-O-plenty. As for the price, I paid $516 for the 4 tires, then another $46 for mounting and balancing. So it sounds as though you are getting a reasonable price.

If both of you are savvy with IFS, you could POSSIBLY do it..in one day. I would plan on at least a 10-12 hr day (unplanned snags).

I performed 95% of the work by myself.
My actual time spent was about 4-5 days worth. I was in my garage with one end up in the air at a time (the trucks mostly). This lapsed over a weekend and a few hours each night after work during the following week.
I am a professional mechanic also (aircraft). If you know how vehicles are put together(suspension-wise), you should be able to tackle it. In one day? That is questionable. I have air tools, dremel tools(used to align bracket bolt holes), grinders, saws-all, floor jack, a BFH (Big F#@k!n Hammer) etc. A lift and second guy would have made things go a WHOLE Lot Faster.

Follow the directions and do the front 1st. If you need to get it out of the garage, you can, with the back end riding lower. You can even drive it that way if need be. You will look like a pre-runner going down the road, but.....

You can easily complete the rear without a garage lift on Sunday if need be.

Hope this helps.

Thanks otherbill. I am going to get some stock today for my buddy, the welder. So hopefully soon I can get in there and clear some room for the 33s. I am alittle undecided about whether to go BFG AT or MT. AT would be quieter, better ride. But the MT has more aggressive lugs, is alittle louder, but what about the ride quality? And the milage on the tires? How much longer will the ATs last over the MTs? Thanks
Joe E.

Tire choice is a personal preference thing- to each his own. Sounds like you are aware of the pros and cons, you just need to decide for yourself which you really want. As far as mileage, you will typically get more out of an AT than a MT (softer compound).

Went to 4wheelparts today.Got a quote of 1650.00 for the kit plus 650.00 labor not including alignment. Itold them that was the absolute highest price for the kit i have seen. They seemed willing to match prices if I would bring proof of a lower price. The labor price wasnt bad though. Any thoughts??

Wheels are $135ea. They told me $155 but I told them that was not the original quote,so got em for $135 ea. They banged me on shipping and handling though.... $125 for all 4-ground ship from Cali to Florida. Didn't have much choice, only alternative was pro-comp 15x8 aluminum (baja-style 10-hole) at $119 ea, didnt want those...

I live in Orlando,FL. The store here on SR 50 is where I got the quote from.My plans are to order it saturday (give them 50% deposit) They said they had one in Cali, would take about 2 weeks to get it,I am still waiting for the wheels from stockton, proably wont have those for 4 more weeks, then I will drop off the truck. If you know of any other shops locally, DakUSA,that could give me a competitive price,I may go elsewhere.By the way,I applied for my membership at this site,it's taking a while to process, can't wait to get my thumbnail picture up!
