I was reading that by cranking the torsion bars on my dakota i could get 2-3" of lift in the front. Its an 87 so thats my only option for a suspension lift, i was planning on getting an add a leaf kit for the rear springs. Does anybody know of any downsides to doing any of this.

from what i gather, some people have said that things wear out quicker but there have been others that have said they have driven over 50,000 miles without a problem!
It does ride a little rougher but new shock will help in that department!
I cranked mine and got 1 1/2 inches and that leveled it out, i wouldnt crank then any higher
then that tho!

I for one luv how much truck feels with it leveled out and the front higher! Nexy is either a body lift or wait until i get the money and do a suspension lift!

The other problem is you loose some travel when off road. The wheel is already at the lowest point and is hitting the bump stop on the bottom. This will limit your flex and travel due to the stiffer spring rate = crank torsion bars. When I flex the rear is the only thing that moves the front always looks simular left to right.

you get a rougher ride. bouncy bouncy because your truck now has no downtravel.
depending on how much you lift it the upper a arms may hit the frame when going over potholes. suspension will be harder so it will have more of a pogo stick ride
you WILL wear out the CV joints faster due to the increased angle the CV joints have to deal with. it may not be in the first 7-10000 miles but they will wear out.
it may be harder to align the camber part of the alignment and you will wear out the inner part of the tire tread if it cant be aligned correctly. I would never crank the torsion bars up more than about 1 inch.
