Subject: Speedo error after swap?

I just finished the lift and drivetrain upgrade on my 97 v6 2wd 5spd [ax-15] Dak. I went from the stock 215/75r15 tires to 31" on 15" rims, with the 3" lift. I then swapped the rear end out: removing the 3.21 gears and having an Auburn unit installed with 3.91 [or 2?] gears installed. So far I am very happy. However, I can't find a gear calculator that can tell me what I want to know. What I want to know is how far off the speed/odometers are now? It would help me if anyone who has done a similar change could tell me what rpm they are at when they are driving 60 or 65 mph. Or what the best way is to fix the speedometer. I don't ever see myself getting larger tires, so a 'permanent' fix for this size is fine. Thanks!

The rear end shouldn't have anything to do with it. Just the tire swap out. The only calculator I know of is the graph on http://www.4wheelparts.com/tire_gear_ratio.asp. Which is just for proper gear ratio to tire size. Most tire stores can figure that out for you but I used to have the same tire size as you and it was about 5 mph off, meaning speedo below actual speed. I think Randy's ring and pinion has a calculator for that.

Wouldn't want any other!

The way the computers work for Dakotas is that there are a few presets for tire sizes. I'm not sure for your truck since I don't think 31s were a stock option, but there is a preset for 31s in the 4x4s. Of course the only way to reset that is through the dealer but it should be a very quick deal so not much coin. This is of course assuming 31 is an option for 2wd. If not, check out Superlift's Truspeed. That's what I'm running for my 33s.
