Subject: 3' Body Lift Question IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 V8 4.7 Ext Cab Sport Dakota 4 x 4. I am getting ready to purchase the Perf Accs. 3' Body lift and go with BFG ATA KO 33 10.50 15's. First question is I currently have FlowMaster Cat Back Exhaust with the 2 dual exhaust tips out the back. The tips are nicely positioned to the right and left of my tow hitch. When I raise the body--the exhaust and everything will raise. I just was not sure if the exhaust tips will stay in the same place and not look right because the Perf Assc says it comes with bumber brackets to raise the back bumber? I paid good $$ for this and would hate for it to look like it is hangin down below the bumper. Second question is do I need to cut anything with a torch etc, or is this straight forward. From all the posts it looks like you raise the truck put on the steering extender and tighten torsion bars? I found the 3 in lift for about 200.00, the local 4x4 shop wants 700.00 for the kit and install. I'm just really not sure what to do. Does anyone know where I can read the instructions before I purchase this to see if I can do it myself.?
Any tips, or replies are greatly appreciated. I want the lift so bad--I'm tired of losing sleep over it..
Thanks

Message: Your exhaust will not lift with the body and will hang 3" below its original position.

Message: Hey I put my a PA body Lift on my 1999 Dakota Sport. It was not that hard at all. If you have a floor mounted transfer case shifter you will need to cut and weld in the 3 inch extension. If you dont well then I really dont know about that cause I only buy trucks with the transfer case shifter. The install was pretty much straight forward. My kit did not come with the rear bumper brackets but its a 1999. All we did was remove the bumper measure up three inches and redrill some holes. But, I would not pull anything with the bumper after the install. But if got a receiver hitch it really isnt a issue. As far as your exhaust goes, I cant say because I did my exhaust after we lifted it. It took me and my brother 14 hours to install it. We started at 730A and at 900P we were done. However, it took about 2 hours to do the cutting and welding of the transfer case shifter.

Message: A.J. nice truck! Did you have to do any adjustments to your trailer hitch since you have a body lift? I have a body lift and want to buy a hitch for my truck.

Message: I just put a 3" PA lift on my 01 4.7L V8 QC 4x4 last Sunday...it wasn't too bad. The same kit is used on my '01 as your '00.
The only major difference in the two rigs when putting on the lift is the 4wd transfer linkage. The '01 has an electric engagement, which means the slack from an electric wire is all I needed to be aware of. On the '00, however, its mechanical, and the directions have you pull off your transfer linkage, measure, cut, and weld an extension bar in the middle of it. You could probably have this part done somewhere else, but remember to measure twice and cut once!!!
The steering linkage was a pain in the a$$ to torque down, but pretty straight forward on installation.

Message: A.J. I was hoping to private message you on cardomain.com about your truck. I am red99daksport on there.. Anyways, e-mail me at cdchristian@yahoo.com with your e-mail address or AIM screenname attached. I want to talk to you about your truck some...I swear you are my long lost twin.... This summer I wondered how my truck would look with dual-exhaust out.. now I have an idea...you have the body lift which I am getting... you have the tires AND wheels I've been looking at... the euro-lights (though I plan to get the carbon-fiber ones since I have a red and black theme on my truck).. Your profile on cardomain says ya are from Dayton, Oklahoma. is that true? If so, we gotta meet up next time I drive to TX (in Nebraska right now). Anyways, e-mail me when you get the chance...
