Subject: 3inch body lift installed price quote IP: Logged
Message: I called my local 4 wheel parts in Tacoma, WA, and they quoted me $700 for the lift kit and the installment. To me that seems too high. way too high. Does anyone know where I could get it done cheaper and what price i should be looking for it being installed?

Message: Do it yourself. The install isn't that hard, it is just time consuming, and that's were that shop is getting their horrible price. They know it will take them at least 8 hours with the equipment they have at probably $50-60 per hour labor, plus they sell the kits for rediculous prices of like $250-280.

Message: I got my Performance Accesories 3" body lift installed for $500(that's parts and labor). I have a 5sp. and they even extended my shifter. I got it done here at a local offroad shop in San Antonio, Texas. I did check prices at different shops. 4wheelparts wanted about $800 and they also said they could not extend my shifter.
Good luck!

Message: Thanks, lol yea i mean if i were to spend $700 on a body lift might as well make it worth it and add a couple more hundred and make it a suspension lift. but yea the kit is $175 and all my other friends have lifts on there trucks so i might as well use their help. Someone told e though that there is a tricky part to do with my steering do u might know what he is talking about and how do i go about fixing it. Thanks

Message: I have a 2001 4x4 4.7 and I bought my kit from Performance Accessories for around 200.00 and me alone with a little help from my wife had installed the kit in less than 5 hours while taking our time to double check everything, detailed instructions come with the kit and it is really simple to install. If I wasn't full-time employed I'd open a buisness installing them for 300-400 and travel to do them. the 4x4 shop here in Georgia charges 500.00 they charge 600.00 to install a suspension lift kit...whats up with that crap.

Message: i think the steering problem yur hearing about is that some people's steering extensions dont fit right but mine fit perfectly and so did many others.....just take your time and dont force anything......oh yeah...i found the directions to be very confusing at some times but i figured it out.....a lot of the stuff i just did my own way and it worked out better

Message: The steering extension is the problem everybody talks about. For some it was a little tight. I couldn't put mine on by hand so I just tapped it on with a hammer. No problem at all.

Message: Same here, except it took a little more than a tap. Also, the threads on the back side of the extension didn't line up with the ones in the front after getting it on there. Basically had to make new threads using an impact drill and the bolt as my cutting tool. Oh well, it worked and it isn't going anywhere.

Message: Mine didn't fit for $hit. Had to custom grind the whole end to even get it started on. The profile of the shaft and the hole in the extension were different. Not a ton,but enough to where it was never going on with a hammer. Trust me I tried before I started cutting on it....

Message: INSTALL IT YOURSELF! My cost of installation: $23.95.....the cost of dinner for the two buddies that helped me!!! Aside from the cost...the pride is all there.
My steering linkage didn't fit at all...I too had to grind down the ends to get it to fit after pounding on it for awhile.....same as GPS did, no doubt.
I felt lucky to have an 01 and not have to cut and weld a 4wd transfer linkage like you would on the '00!!!

Message: Off the subject alittle...Body lifts are a snap, suspension kits like I put on my 2004 Ford King Ranch 4x4 FX4 PSD is a lot harder. 4 1/2in.lift with a box kit...35in. NITTOS and 18in.x10 wheels... The red factory lock tight is what makes turning bolts a lot harder with suspension kits... Does anyone know how much I saved in labor?
