Subject: Small Lift & Tires IP: Logged
Message: I am lifting my 4x4 Durango a few inches using longer shackles and cranking the torsion bars. Should be about a two inch lift. I was looking at the Bridgestone Dueler Revos. What is the largest tire I will be able to fit? Any other tire recommendations? Thanks!

Message: What year is your Durango and do you have 15" or 16" wheels? You should be able to fit a 32" or equilavent, but I doubt you'll be able to go any larger than that.

Message: It's a 98, hence the name, 98Durango360 ;) Its running factory 31" tires and 15" wheels right now. 10.5 wide I think. So 32" will not rub?

Message: My fault, I should have caught that. Of course, every truck is different so there are no guarantees that 32s will not rub. I have 33s, a 3" body lift and cranked torsion bars, but I still have a little rubbing at full turn when backing up. The wheels that I have are a different offset so that is part of the problem. 32s on your factory wheels should be ok. After you get the lifting done, you can check your clearance at full turn and get a pretty good idea if you'll have enough room. The bumper valance will most likely be where you rub if you do at all.
Do the Revos come in 32"? I looked for 32s before I did the body lift and found that there are very few tires that come in the size. I know that Yokohama makes the Geolander in a 32" and I think the BFG makes their AT in a 32 also.
Good luck, ~Tracy

Message: Good point, I can only find the Revos in 31". I hope this tire size will look alright with my Durango lifted 2 inches.... Any thoughts?

Message: Personally, I think it should look good, although I haven't seen a lifted Durango before. I'd like to see some pics when you get it done. Also, there are several different brands of 32s at tirerack.com that will give you some idea of what is available ... the old Dueler comes in a 32".

Message: Well the reason I decided on the Revos is because of their ratings. They are the highest rated tire for my application on tirerack.com. Because these ratings are all consumer based and not some consumer reports or some other company producing potentially false ratings, I put a lot of stock into them. I would really like the best All Terrain tire I can get, and judging by these ratings and a few people I have talked to, the Revos are the way to go. Unless someone can give me evidence or talk me out of it otherwise, I will stick with the 31" Revos. If you can convince me to go with a 32" in a different style or brand tire, please go for it. I'll take all the advice I can get. Thanks for all your help so far Tracy, very much appreciated.

Message: I thought the reason for the lift was bigger tires?? Personally, I wouldn't do the lift if you don't plan to put on larger tires. I don't think that it will look good and I'd spend the money on other things. Just my 2 cents. My 31" tires looked stupid after the 3" body lift and it took me less than a month to replace them with 33s, even though I had just purchased the 31s a few months prior.
As far as tires go, I agree that Revos are a great tire and you can't beat the warranty. I've never heard anyone on here ever talk about Toyo AT Open Country tires, but they are the BEST highway truck tires that I've ever had. They are the 31" tires that I said looked stupid, but it had nothing to do with the actual tire ... just the general size and look as a whole. You can see pics of them by going to the "My Dak Pics" link above. The traction on these tires was second to none, whether it is in the snow, rain or on dry pavement. And the balancing of these tires was unreal ... none of them took more than a couple ounces to balance. Unfortunately, they don't make them any larger than a 31" or I would have gotten them again.
If anyone is interested I have the Toyos for sale. They were bought in Jan 03 and have 90-95% of the tread left with about 5000 miles on them. I live in the St. Louis area and am open to reasonable offers.

Both your quotes....LOL
Well, I'm kinda worried now b/c I really like those tires but I also really wanted it lifted two inches. Anyone else have an opinion? 2" lift on 4x4 Durango with 31" tires look funny?

Message: I do know what I said and my first quote was with the notion that you were going to put on 32" tires. My second was after you said "...I will stick with the 31" Revos"
Bottom line:
2" lift + 32" tires = look good
2" lift + 31" tires = look funny
Of course, this is just my opinion. We all have one, just like a**holes and you know the rest. :)

Message: Okay that makes sense to me. Thanks for being the only person on this board that expresses their opinion. Damn, I'd really like it if someone else would tell me what they think. Right now im thinkin im gonna return the lift shackles I bought and stick with 31" tires. I don't want to have to recalibrate the speedo and I really want the Revos for their "highly rated" performance. I'm getting tires saturday though so if anyone else has a suggestion or opinion.. share it please :)

Message:
Anyone interested in buying four BRAND NEW Goodyear Wrangler MTR's? They are size 285.75 R16 (equivalent to a 33x11.50) and have not been used at all.
(if you want) The tires also come with four brand new 16x8 factory wheels from Dodge. These rims are in flawless condition as well.
I am selling this package because I have to trade my Dakota in for a car, and I don't really plan on fitting 33 inch tires on it. So take advantage of this deal because I intend to sell them at a bargain price. If you are interested please email me with questions/comments and I would be more than happy to reply. More pictures are available as well.
