Subject: Gen II 3 " body lift on a 2wd IP: Logged
Message: I know someone out there has done this. JoeE? I need some pre-install help- I'm currently running 30x9.5 BFG A/Ts on my 96 2wd ext cab w/ the Rough Country 2" lift. Bigger is better and that's why I'm thinking of ordering the 3" body lift from TA for the 87-96 ext cab 4x4- even though it clearly says "4x4 only"- can't I put this on my truck? If so, what in terms of the steering shaft/ anything else needs to be done? I have the tools and time- just need the "been-there-advice" Thanks guys.

Message: How it going Fitz? Your truck? Havent done much with mine lately, school is taking all my cash. I have done some interior stuff. painted dash, etc. Looks really good, Im suprised to say.
Anyways, I can give you general info on the body lift. I had my 4x4 shop install mine in less than a day. Its been on for 2 years now and have had no problems. Like you said the steering shaft has to be extended. Mine just has a simple inch thick bar as the extension. Bolted in on top and trimmed out on bottom to fit in stock local. Bumpers might be a pain. My rear is welded on in place and looks way betteer than it did even in stock local. Fan shroud has to be cut just as it turns down and gets vertical on both sides. We used 1/4 in sheet metal to make new brackets for it. No biggie just gota make do in situations. Another thing is the brake lines. You have to tinker with them a bit so they are angled more tword the ground. And the parking break has a small situation but I cant remember what it was.
Make sure to have mutiple jacks on hand to do it yourself. Get some anti seize on the old body bolts a day or so before attacking it. Cant think of anything else right at the moment. If I remember anything, Ill let ya know. Good luck and have a good one.
