Subject: Fitting 35's IP: Logged
Message: OK, I have a 00' 4x4 with the stock 31" tires and all. I really want to fit 35's. Will a 3" body, cranked t.bars, lil front trimin, and bending the rear leafs allow 35's without much rubbing? I've really been thinking of just the 3" body and 33's, but 35's just seem so so nice. Any help would be great. thaanks

Message: i'd stick with the 33's. the kotas already have a bad problem with wearing out ball joints fast. putting 35's and cranking the tbars will cause the ball joints to wear out very very very fast. not to mention all of the extra strain on the rest of the front end parts. there are a couple..and i mean only a couple of guys running 35's. but that's with 3" suspension and 3" body lift. and they still need to trim. so 3" body and maybe 1.5" tbar crank will make you trim a ton and you'll still end up with rubbing. i'd say save your truck the pain and just stick with the 33's. there's no need to sacrifice the ride, integrity, and strength of your truck just to fit 35's.

Message: ridered, i did exactly what you're talking about and the 33's fit nicely, 35's would tear off your fender flairs, bumper, and rub on the sheet metal of the body.

Message: And even for 2wd's I'd agree. Anything bigger than 33's than you'd better get a totally custom lift, because there isn't anything out there to go high enough for 35's.
Wouldn't want any other!

Message: My goal since I bought my Dakota was to fit 35's with no trimming. For on-road I have no rubbing and if I wanted to mild off-road would only need to trim the rear plastic up about 2-3", nothing major compared to the "hack jobs" some have performed to their bumper and most of the inner plastic fender liners just to drive down the road. For serious off-roading I use my 33's on stock rims with no rubbing anywhere. I am pleased that I haven't had to take a dremel to my Dakota, but it wasn't cheap either, even doing all the work myself. If you have the money, you can run 35's comfortably, especially if you are brave enough to use the Truckin Suspension 6.5-9.5 inch lifts:) 33's of course are more practical and the stock Dakota drivetrain has been known to puke it's guts out with 35's during 4wd strain. Good-luck.

Message: 2THEXTRM, you're running 35's with a 3" suspension lift and a 3" body lift. this guy's talking about just getting a body lift and cranking on the t-bars. i don't see how it's possible with what the guy's wanting.

Message: Hey 2thextrm, what about a 5.5" tc and the 3" body, is that gonna be enough to clear 35's both on and off road? What do you mean by the dirvetrain breaking too? What kinda mods do you suggest to prevent such things from happening? Thanks for any help

Message: TC is not for '00's and newer.
xtreme is talking about the Truckin / AIM lift that may throw your drive line. They have prolly addressed the issue but they still have no credibility here.
You will not run 35's with a suspension lift and a TB cranking. Even if you hack out all the fender well plastic.
You will not wheel with 35's with a 3" and a 3" BL and SL. Sure you can prolly drive around town and only get a occasional rub but you will not articulate 35's off road.
The AIM 5.5 with a 3" BL may make it clear but what a combo. I can just see it Drive trian and all front suspension parts all over the road at some point.

Message: im 98, so TC is no problem, ive seen quite a few daks on car-domain with 35's after a TC and BL, i have the 3.92 rear so wont that be enough to move the 35's? I dont mind a little rubbing as long as i dont destroy the fenders or anything lol.

Message: I'm not sure if you've already got the tires. But I have a 98 Durango came stock with 31" I put a 3"body lift minor fender trimming was needed but I managed to stuff 35x12.50x15 MTR's on the stock wheels. This is without cranking the t-bars at all. After a little more trimming I put them on 589.

Message: Hey Durango, do you have any pitures you could send me. just wondering how that looks. Im guessin it looks pretty mean. I think Im going to do a truckin 6.5" with some triming and throw some 35's on. I think its going to look pretty good. Then to finish that I was thinking 410 gears. If anyone has something better in mind, let me know. thanks
BTW> i have a 00' 4x4 cc

Message: If you check some of the flex photo's at my site you can see that a 33 only has a 1/2" room on each side to cleear the fender wells in back.
So 1 more inch (35") will rub when stuffed in the wheel well.
If you saw any of the E-bay photo's of the Dak with 35's you could see if you tried to articulate or flex you did not have very much room to flex. Just what I see.
2thextrm may be able to better verify this. Since he is running the 35's.
This still does not negate the fact that a dakota front end can handle 35"s, Maybe some will.

Message: I see what your saying fx4, but youve got a suspension lift, for those with a body lift, we dont the extra travel or anything, we just have more room, make sence? So you think with trimming, you can just squeeze 35's with a bl? Maybe jsut slightly smaller than 35's? What rims would you reccomend in order to help? If i got 35's (or slightly smaller) with just the 3" body, will black 15x8 rockcrawlers be ok?

The biggest tire you could go is 15x8 with the factory offset and backspaceing. 15x10 will stick the wheel and tire out to far to turn. Message: 13
they don't make a 33" tall tire that's 325 in width.
325/60/17 = 32.35"
325/65/17 = 33.63
325/70/17 = 34.91
try a 295/70/17 if you want 33" tall tire. thats about as close as you'll get.
BTW I run a 265/70/17 on y dakota i cranked the tb up all the way and used add-a-leaf in the rear, my truck rubs sometimes when turned
