Message: attention anyone and everyone who has done a conversion, i need opinions....i'm AM in the process of gathering all my parts for my conversion. i already have a dana 44 and my hysteer knuckles, i'll be getting new warn hubs and gears for the front and rear (4:56 --since thats the lowest they make for a chrysler 9.25 rear) NOW MY QUESTIONS... would there be a problem using the rack and pinion sterring pump for a 97-99 dakota box?? what other boxes would fit this truck? secondly, does anyone know the WMS to WMS of the rear axle of the 4x4?? if read it's around 62.5. since my f-150 axle is around 65..is the front going to be too wide? the reason being is that i don't want to junk a great 9 1/4 rear end just to dump another 3 grand into an old ford 9" just to gain 2.5 inches of width....andy suggestions would help...and yes i'm planning on running 38's it's a sick truck

Message: Okay as far as the steering...unless you already have one (or it is very cheap) do not go with the stock steering pump. Mine is really not that great with my setup (98 cc)... as in if I had the money, because it will eventually go out because it is weak, I would put an AGR Rock Ram Steering setup in it...trust me if you can afford it do it now cause it will be a hell of a lot cheaper. It will work with the stock setup but if you plan on pushing your truck hard you will regret it in the long run. Mine pops when under tension turning because the rod that comes in to it has some play in it (steering rods are a little weak too...our trucks weren't made for the rocks...but we still do it and some of us just keep modifying until we are unstopable.)
As for the width of the 9.25" i really don't know but I do know that my ford 9" and dana 44 are about 2" total wider than my stock 8.25". I know that you could put a spacer on it, which can also change the bolt pattern, but I know many people don't recommend it as they can break (obviously something else that could shear in the rear). It will definetly look stupid if you don't do anything about it so I would really suggest you either put the spacers on or just invest in the ford 9". I don't remember how strong the 9.25" is but I do know that the ford 9" is a lot stronger than my old 8.25".
Also if you plan on running 38's you might want to get stonger axles in the rear (superior makes them for all application, moser also). I know most suggest not going above a 37 with the dana 44 and the ford 9" so it is your call, but you might want to carry extra axles with you when you wheel it.
Hope this helps some and if you have any more questions feel free to email me.
