Message: Great work on the SAS! The coilover design is great. Does it see offroad much, or do you stick to onroad use?
I'm currently in the market for a newer model dakota to lift and throw 35-36" tires under (would like to trade in my 03 F250 diesel for something smaller).
I've always liked Dakotas, but have concerns running large tires with torsion bars. Before I pick a truck to purchase (either Tacoma or Dakota), I'm investigating the lift opportunities for each.
Would you be willing to share some of your info? Not necessarily the plans down to the detail, but "gotchas" and other things you encountered?
I built a 95 Bronco that I put a solid D44 front in (8" susp, 3" body, 38" tires). And I've got a 43 Willy's that I'm currently working on a 3 link rear and 4 link front for using Fox AirShox, so I'm not exactly new to suspension work.
I'd love to hear your input, etc. I can be reached via email - maadams4@vt.edu
I live up in Sac... one of these days I'll have to get to SLO and check out your truck.

Message: I'm writing from up in B.C. Canada and would be very interested in the straight axle kit. There is no kit available for my 2001 Quad 4x4 5 speed except for a 3 inch body lift(ugh). I have seen a conversion done with leaf springs, dana 44 front, dana 60 rear, and a mix of ford and chevy parts(saw it on the internet, not in person unfortunately). Definitely not a beginner project by any means. I look forward to any updates on the Super-Kit!!!
Brian
P.S. If you build it, we WILL come!

Message: The truck is done and it runs great. The only reason that I have not put out a kit to market is due to liability insurance. It is very expensive due to the nature of the product. I am looking into doing something soon but I still have some issues to resolve

Message: Hey, I'm very surprised to hear back so soon. I would love to see pictures if you give me an address. I intend to use a local shop where they specialize in custom suspension work and I think this would be right up their alley. Do you have any parts that are saleable yet? I understand about liability problems. So.... what axles did you use???

Message: This thread is 4 1/2 years old, if a kit hasn't come out by now, it's not coming. IIRC, earlier in this thread, he stated he found it was not cost effective to manufacturer and market the kit he was developing. The ROI didn't overcome the R&D costs. Also, I'm not sure if this is the same guy, but there were some posts on DTW a few years ago about someone in CA with a blue SAS Dakota who was killed after being hit by a car while sitting in a lawn chair in front of his shop. Since BlueDak hasn't been on here or DTW in a few years, it could be the same person.

He got killed by a drunk driver a few years back.

Bummer about high cost. It sounded like a cool idea. I bet the truck rode really well. Thanks for the reply.
