Message: yes, i installed the lift after the FIPK. everything will fit with the exception of the air dam. due to the fact that your motor will sit 3" lower than stock, the air dam will either have to be cut or or completely removed. i removed mine. otherwise, there's nothing to worry about.

Message: Ian,
thanks for the reply, when you say "air dam" are you talking about the heat shield?, the metal box that the filter is in? Did you have to tilt the filter and intake up? If so, was there enough room to tilt it up under the hood?
Also, did you do it yourself? Can you weld, the instructions look pretty difficult. How long did it take you?
I appreciate any info, thank you.

Message: din baby,
I just got my 3" kit in the mail today, it is a performance accessories body lift kit that I ordered from JC Whitney's for something like $179. I looked at the instructions. Man, I thought that it would be easier than what I now realize. I am considering paying a 4x4 shop to install for me. If you want to know more about install, ask me, I'll tell you about the details.

Message: It's not too difficult.. take your time.... Only watch out for the steering extention and the fan shroud.. those are the two hardest things to do.. at least they were for me...if you have 2K+. P.S. Watch the threads on the bolt with the steering extention.. Mine stripped out..

Message: I put my pa on about 3 weeks ago. Here are some points:
1.I found it easier to take the whole lower shroud out.
2.DO NOT use the radiator hose extender included with the lift. It does not fit right and mine popped off 3 times until i just bought a new hose.
3.Take your time with the steering extender.
4.make sure you use the lock-tite.

Message: Do you really have to drain the radiator? I heard that you can get away with not doing it. I never did that on my Silverado a few years back....

Message: I put a 3" on my '01 Dak 4X4 SLT. I started the process then went to the shop for the rest. It
was going to take a long time 5+ hours. I still
have problems with the steering extension at some
point touching the headers. (Gibson shorties).
I had to pound the side to make it clear. Love the new look. Make sure to check all mods after
100 miles. sometimes shXX comes loose. good luck

Message: With the 4.7, you don't need to do anything with the radiator hose. After the lift, mine cleared the clutch fan without a problem. If you worried, take the clutch fan off. You don't need it anyway. While you have the plastic shield off, you might as well put a 180 thermostat in. Just my recommendation.

Message: I'm not sure I have a clutch fan...??? I have an electric unit I think...although I haven't looked it in a while either. Maybe I have both and haven't noticed. Mine's a 2001 Quad. You say pitch the clutch if I do? I read something about that hear. Is that why the damn thing is soo loud in the summer or is that the electric one making the whirling noises....??

Message: I've been away for a while and I'm not trying to be too sarcastic here guys, I did a ton of research when I was getting mine too. But, try the search engine, you might like it... or try the following

dkr8611, I have the 4.7 and if I didn't modify the hose it would have been a very short drive. All trucks have their own subtleties, but I can tell you that mine absolutely had to be spliced.
Then again, I had one of the trucks where the steering adaptor made the knuckle on the steering shaft hit the engine mount. Some people shave the mount, some shave the knuckle, some don't even hit.

Message: I did reserch it, with the search engine. I've even read those links before I bought my lift. I still don't see your point though.
As for the first link, I don't have the shifter on the floor, the 5.9, nor am I concerned with the steering extension. So the first link doesn't answer the question about the fan, and give varing opinions on the radiator.
As for the second link I don't have the grill guard, and it also says nothing about the fan or radiator.
I might remind you that this thread pertains to body lifts, and help with installing them. You can do a search, and get 10 different answers, but you can't sort them by vehicle uniqueness (manual trans, engine type, body type, ect.) without asking and discussing it here...
Maybe I've missed the point of forums tho eh? Guess they are for NEW news only, everything else is to be found and read in the search engine only....No repeat questions boys! Ya hear?

Message: black beauty, i didn't weld anything. if was all bolt on. the only real part i had trouble with was the fron bumber mounts. they were all drilled wrong and required me to machine to fit. as for the intake, i took it off, once the lift was complete, i put it back on. all that was required was to adjust the bracket arm on the fuel rail. otherwise, no mods necesary.
i didn't use the hose extension, there wasn't a need, but i could see them being manditory on certain engines.

Message: I have done 2 of these to date. The first was on my 02 RC w/ 4.7, the radiator hose had to be replaced, I went with a universal 23" that I could bend the way I wanted to. I have also heard that a hose for an 85 F150 w/ 302 will work perfectly for the 4.7 No problems with the steering extension, no where near the motor mount. Fan shroud was a pain, ended up cutting it in place with a Rotozip. Didn't mess with the gas filler removal either.
Second was on an 02 QC w/ 3.9 We didn't have to mess with the radiator hose on this one, so no draining either, it worked fine. The steering extension on this one was a pain, no problems with the motor mount, but it was to small to fit on the steering box. Cut the fan shroud in place with a sawzall.
The first one took us about 10 hrs to do, but with everything we learned, 2 of us did the second in just 4 hours.

Message: Don't get your panties in a wad GPS. I don't come to these boards to get in pissing contests with people. They've been far too helpful over the last couple of years to waste mine or anyone elses time. In fact, I was curious about the FIPK discussion as I am contemplating that myself. Apparently my good natured and light hearted sarcasm, failed to come across well via written text. If so, my apologies. Portions of this string were for "general" help in which case the first link, IMHO is great. Secondly, although my post happens to follows yours regarding the fan, it wasn't directed at you but I can see the confusion. Either way, your seem awfully sensitive. Get off your pedastal and chill. I've already wasted too much space off topic now.
You don't say what engine you have, (although not a 5.9 per you post) If it's a 4.7 then at least two people on this string had to change the radiator hose and 1 that didn't. If you luck out and don't have to change the hose, then you won't have to drain the radiator. We did everything first and the blade would hit the hose, so we drained and spliced. Outside of needing to change the hose, I saw no reason to drain the radiator for any of the other steps.
Matt says not to use the extender and I'd have a hard time arguing with him. It was a PITA, but we did get it to fit and haven't lost a drop of coolant in 6mos. Still w/ the benfit of hindsight I'd just get a new one. Oh yeah, and I also used a dremmel while the shroud was still on. Have eye protection the sh!t get everywhere.
It's Friday, get a margarita and be happy.

Message: Ian,
Thanks for the advise, but I have a 4.7, so your 5.9 would be considerably different. Thanks anyway. I've got a friend in a Cadilac dealership next to my work that installed my Gibson shorty headers for $100, I think he'll do my body lift for $200.
By the way does anyone know if 32" BFG All-Terrains will fit under my 3"body lift Dakota with factory rims?
