I was lookin at this wheel combo from 4wheelparts.com:

http://www.4wheelparts.com/product2.asp?imseqn=1038&occlass=TWD&cat=PAC

Does anyone know if it would be better to get the 8" wide or 10" wide rims?

Also, what would the preferred backspacing be for a 2001 4X4?

I currently have the 16x8 stock rims with a 3" body lift. Would the 10" rim's rub the frame or bumber up front? What if I change the backspacing?

Thanks!

Do a search and you'll find a ton of info on what you're asking about. Quick answer, 8" rims and you'll be good to go. 10" rims and you'll have to trim some stuff like inner fender and most likely the outter fender.

The backspacing for the AE 589's is something like 3.25" if I remember correctly. I'm not sure how you would go about changing this though.

But do a search on the forums and trust me, you'll find a ton of info.

I think the closer you stay to stock BS the better. Stock BS is 5.5".

I know that the 589 15x8 with 32x11.5x15 MT's rub on my 3" suspension lift. Not sure if you saw my post about that. My height from the ground to the bottom of the fender well is 42".

Only problem with 16's is that you end up having to order in the 285x75x16 metric #'s so a tire calculator will help you figure the right size.

I think 305x75x16's are doable but I am not running those.

Maybe this helps.

Ya - from what I've read, I think most people have to trim with 12-inch wide 33's anyways.

I just thought that 10" rims are safer to have with a wider tire.

If anyone else has any definitive answers, or the same setup, please let me know.

Thanx,
MikeC

OH - I guess I should say which combo I was getting..der..

I'm lookin at the 15x8 (or 10) AE's with the 33/12.50R15 M/T

I'm essentially dumping the 16 inch rims to get off the metric stuff. If anyone's interested, I'll sell em, with a full unused spare too ;-)

Thanks for the info so far!

Just do a search. Please. You will find all your answers. I'm not trying to be an a$$, it's just that we've seen this exact post from countless others. It's been done before, trust me.

Did you see this link I posted on Tires and BS.

I explained how you can visualize rims and tire differences with the different BS and width of rims.

Thanks forexfour - I'll check out the link.

I also called 4wheelparts and the backspacing on the AE589 rims is different than stock, which will make them stick out about an inch and a half more.

They also recommended going with the 8"ers.

As for other people doing it, I'm sure they have, which is why I was askin. I've pioneered a few things on here with the GenIII's as well, so just cuz I dont pop my head up much anymore, don't mean I don't know what I'm doin. (e.g. 3" PA body lift). I've answered countless questions on it just because I liked helping people, and in most cases before any one could say 'do a search'.

Anyways, I appreciate the archive of info here - *cough* - although I haven't become a registered user YET. I just know that the info I wanted was spread out over a lot of posts and thought by now there would be a simple yes/no - here's the deal answer.

I have the 15x8 589's and 33x12.50 BFG AT's. Because of the low 3.25" backspacing, I had to raise my torsion bars to level out the truck from front to back, and I also had to do a little trimming to the lower valance and the bottom corners of the fender flares to make them fit without rubbing. I'm not sure what the backspacing is on the 15x10 589s, but if it's anywhere close to as low as the 15x8 3.25" backspacing, you will have to do some major trimming to fit them. Even though the 15x10s look a little better, I would stick to the 15x8s. You will have far less rubbing problems with them.

not the best pics but you will be able to get the idea. the back spaceing on my welds is 3.63 not as low as the 589's. 4wheelparts has a sale right now on a rim that looks exactly like the 589 but with fake beadlocks buy3 get one free as well as procomp tires and some weld rims check it out.

looking at your pics conig , and there's no way those are 3 5/8 backspacing or 3.63 , look how much 97 blk dak and mine stick out with 3.25 , 3.6 is only 1/2 in more , yours are probably 4 5/8 backspacing ...........
