BJ, your truck looks sweet. I have the QC in silver but in a 2wd. I noticed you have a body lift and big tires on your stock rims. I was told I could not fit bigger tires and a sup lift kit with stock rims, something about the suspension getting in the way. If I did the body lift does that mean it would work and I could fit say 31" tires with no rub on my stock wheels? This guy is selling me a 3" sup lift with new 16x8 rims and 30" mud tires but I actually like my stock rims.

I am no expert on the subject but I believe we are in the same boat. I am looking in lifting my 02 clucab with a suspension lift, 31's and stock rims. You were told right about a 3" suspension lift like fabtechs and stock rims. The stock rims due to their offset will not clear the new upper control arm that comes with their kit. A body lift should work and clear with 31's and stock rims. I personally am not a big fan of body lifts cause all your doin is raising the body off the frame. Ground clearence will not increase, and the frame will be more visable. I have been seeing some people posting about using coils spring spacers and getting 3" lift from them without changing the control arms. This will allow you to use stock rims and have a suspension lift too, but from what I hear you will loose some downward travel in the front suspension, but its hardly noticable. Once again I have no first hand knowledge of this just goin by what I read. There is a member who goes by the name Conig who has done the 2"(really 3") coil spacer lift and has helped me in answering alot of questions I had so maybe posting a thread to him will better help answer your questions. Hope this helps.
Mike

I'm sure you are speaking of the fabtech suspension lift. According to them, they state you cannot fit your stock rims on the kit. You must have a rim that has a 3.75 backspacing or less. Some managed to fit 4.00 on there. I was quite lucky and got 5.00 off set american eagle 767's on there just by relocating the brake lines. The stock rims are i believe 5.5 or 6.0 backspacing. Too much and they hit the upper a-arms. With the body lift, you can fit your stock rims easily, because you are not modifying your suspension. Fitting 30 inch tires should be easy wiht your body lift as well, without any rubbing. Like MechanicMike said, you can also opt for the coil spacer lift, and keep your stock rims, but u'll have to get an add-a-leaf kit for the rear of the truck to level it out.

I am not much into the off road thing, mostly just the looks of the bigger truck. So if I can get the look with the body lift and have it do basically the same thing and still save money, that sounds like the better plan to me. I am not too worried about ground clearence and I can save by keeping my stock rims too. Thanks for the advice.
One more question, what the heck is the offset of the wheel? I keep seeing this in a bunch of posts.

One more thing guys, do I need to do anything to the truck if I decide to replace my stock 16x8 wheels with 15x8 or 15x10 wheels? The guy at 4 wheel parts said that it may not fit because of the set up. Does that make sense???

When we say off set, it's the measurement from the inside of the rim (where the bolt holes are) to the outside of the rim. That distance is the offset. I am not familiar with the newer dakotas that are equipped with 16 inch rims, but i may guess that your bolt pattern could be different. I could be wrong but i'm not entirely sure. Of course if you have 15 inch rims and wanna use your 16 inch tires, it wont fit, and vise versa. Also, you mentioned 15x10 rims, and if you run a body lift with that 10 inch wide rim, it will prob hit the frame or somewhere because it's prob not a proper offset to fit as a stock wheel. I need more details on what you mean about your wheels to assist u more accurately.

Chaximus, thanx for the info. I feel like a dumb ass when I don't know crap.
I am going back in tomorrow to talk to the guy again, see if he can explain it again now that I am more familiar with this stuff. Good thing they didn't have to order anything until Monday.
