Subject: Coil Spacers??????? IP: Logged
Message: I know, I know another 2wd lift question. Here it goes. I see some of you guys runnin 2" coils spacers are actually getting 3" lift in the front. My question is is there anything else that has to be modified to get 3" out of 2" spacers? Such as bump stops, or something? Can the truck be aligned with these spacers? Most of all can I use my stock 16" rims with 31's? Just wonderin cause the only way I thought to get 3" was through a body lift (which I'm not to fond of) or the Fabtech which says U can't use stock wheels and 31's. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks. Mike

Message: Conig, thanks for the reply. When you say I will loose some downward travel, is something I will notice on road during daily driving? Or is it something that will be noticed during severe offroading? Not looking to build an all out offroad truck, it will be mostly for looks and playing in the mud/snow. Also where did you get the spacers? I was on PLC's website and they didn't have the 2"(really 3" spacers)All they had was the 1.5"(really 2")for the Dakotas and saw nothing about add-a-leafs. Thanks again.

Message: Downward travel is how much flex u have downwards. Meaning, you can go down so far before you rest on ur bump stops. With a 3 inch fabtech, i only have 1 inch downward travel, meaning if i hit a bump for flex too fast, the arm can only go down one more inch before i hit the bump stop. You will prob feel a slight thump when this happens, nothing harmful, just hitting the bumpstops (their purpose put to use)

Message: chaximus is right I only have about 1/2 inch of downward travel never noticed a problem in mud at all. sometimes rideing gaslines or powerline trails I hit them but that is sometimes.
I got both daystar spacers and rough country add-a-leaves from jcwhitney.com.

Message: no . because you can only go up so much until your springs top off ............. with the fabtech 3" they are almost toppped off , also all you're going to do is compress the spring but you wont get more lift ......more lift means SPINDLE wich nobody wants to make for us .......

Message: I believe it will. Mine is a 2002 2wd. I have seen pics of an 02 Quad cab with the 2(really 3") spacers with add-a-leaves in the rear and it looked SWEET! Hope this helps.

Message: Thanks for the reply. I noticed that AIM sells 2"Coils with billet spacers attached for $199. They claim 1"-5" of lift on the web site. I'm wondering if I use this application to lift the front and the AAL for the rear if I will be able to run 31x10.50 mud tires on my stock 16x8 rims.
Any information if very much appreciated.

Message: you could use this setup. however you wont get more then 3 inches of lift on stock a arms. maybe 4 with fabtech a-arms anymore then that and you would most likely need new a-arms.

Message: With the above setup any suggestions as to if I should use the AAL with the 2"Coils with billet spacers? (3" lift) I know that this application will work to fit the 31x10.50, but what impact will this have on my ride.
I want the lift without impacting the ride to much. This is my daily driver and I'm trying to accomplish improving the look with better off road handling. YES or NO to the AAL.

Message: Everyone I seem to talk to about this type of set up says that the add-a-leaves are not the problem. Its the coils spacers. I was told that coil spacers will create a harsher ride, you will also loose suspension travel and it will be difficult to align. With that said, I have also spoke to people that have done this set-up to their trucks and claim its not bad at all. I am still debating myself on this set-up because I'm not sure I want to go messing with the suspension on a new truck. I wish there was a way to see a truck with this set-up in person, and go for a ride but I doubt that will happen. Hope this helps.
