Hey guys! I have been lurking around the board for a while soaking up as much as I can. I'm quite new to dodge trucks as I came over from Chevy (still luv em to death). I'm from West Virginia and live to go riding around god's hills in my 4X4. Recently this past deer season my truck was unable to clear several water breakers on the hill behind our hunting cabin forcing me to bottom out and use momentum to clear the obstacle. Infact the month before hunting season I got my fathers 3/4 Ex-cab Longbox Chevy high centered on one of the breakers and was pulled out by 2 Fords. LOL! Any way to make a long question short what suspension lift does everyone prefer? I was thinking a Rancho lift but I believe the 5.5 from Tough Country would clear 33s better and give more clearance/articulation (obviously). Any sugestions/recommendations? How about a truckin lift? I haven't heard too much talk about em? Oh yeah one more thing, would it hurt my dodge to pull a car (vette) with a TC or Rancho lift? Primarily that's one of the reasons I bought a V8 truck.

i have heard that the tough country lift has some weak points, i cant remeber exactly what they are but they can be fixed.
Papa Smurf is selling the 5.5 lift for $600 in case you are interested...
i am considering the rancho for my truck which i have heard is built better than the tuff-country...
there are people that have installed both on this board, so someone will give you more info than i can...

Can you elaborate on the weak points of the TC? My biggest worry is will I be able to use my truck to pull and haul after the lift is complete. When I travel to the camp usually I have a tractor and a 4wheeler in tow behind me. I also worry about pullin my car with a lifted truck. Afraid that it would hurt the truck. Am I worried for nothing?

i think most the problems with the tuff-country had to do with low bumpstop munts or something along that line which was easily bashed by rocks.
i dont think towing should be a problem. you might need a drop hitch, and i am not sure how the rear is lifted, but if it is a 3or 4 in block i would switch to a 2in and put in some add-a-leaves so your back end doesn't lower to much...

Towing won't be affected.
The front lower bumpstops are crappy. They hang down lower than everything else. If you want to go offroad cut them off and just use some limiting straps.

If your planning on towing with the lift go for the Rancho...enough clearance for 33's which is the same as the tuff country offers and it rides better from what I have heard...I've had the tuff country lift for almost a year now and I haven't had any problems except the fact the she rides a little rougher than I would like...however that could be because of the cheap shocks I got under her...I'm currently working on alleviating that
Honestly, if your just looking for bigger tires (which is the only thing thats going to get you better clearance through the differential pumpkin) slap a hanson bumper on their and leave stock set-up alone. If your deadset on the suspension lift, rancho is probably the best set-up for your application. If your looking for every possible inch you can get, go tuff country.

I was wondering what you said about the truckin lift. They say that I could get 35's on my 99 4X4 dakota. I want to get 35's on my truck bnut I want to stay with a good ride on road but I want it to good offroad. I was wondering if anyone had heard of the rancho 3 inch with a 2 or 3 in ch body lift also. The only problem is that I have a warn brush guard and I think I wouod have to change the mounts if I put a body lift on. Would some one please tell me any ideas on how to get 35's on and waht lift they think is the best built lift. Thanks

You can fit 35's a number of ways...
Tuff country lift alone...fine for street driving but not enough lift to keep your tires out of the fenders when heavily off roading
Tuff country lift and performance accessories body lift...probably your best bet for what your looking for...plenty of clearance for 35's, a guy named Scott managed 38's with some fender trimming but I wouldn't recommend it
Rancho and performance accessories body lift...everyone I've talked to has said it will work, including 4wdakota, who's pretty dang knowledgable in this category (see above)
Solid axle swap...dump the BS IFS and throw something worthy of off-road abuse under there...the sky's the limit in this category, hero's going with 2 1/2 ton military axles with 44's!
Truckin suspension or whiplash...I'd rather take remove my fenders to run 35's before I used one of their lifts...they may have got their lift straightened out for the most part (questionable) but after the crap they pulled with knobby, they can take their lift and stick it where the sun don't shine!

G, I was wondering the same thing. In the past my old Jeep used rancho parts and worked VERY well under stress. I have been thinking about a Rancho lift with a 2"-3" body lift. Thought that would look really good and clear any obstacles up at the camp. Anyone have this combo?
Thank God for 4 wheel drive! This snow storm we had really reeked havoc on ole WV.

I've had the 3" body for awhile, rub w/33's. got 15x10's rub even MORE, so I just finished the rancho 3" this weekend.

What solid axel would you recomend for ease of installation but can still take a beating off road, and what lift would you recomend with the solid axels under it?
