Do you have to separate the lower balljoint to replace the spring? Does anyone who installed lifted springs have any tips?

i'm not too familiar w/ the susp. set up on 2wd, as mine's 4x , however i'd imagine a spring compressor would let you squeeze it out.

no, don't mess with your lower ball joints unless you have a problem with them. Just need to lower the lower a-arm and it's in and out. Make sure you use a coil spring compressor.

Wouldn't want any other!

I failed. (before anyone responded) Now I'm feeling a little better after five shots of Yeagar and a some beers. I rented a spring compressor. I also had three friends standing around to help. One of them used to be a damn race car driver and thinks he knows everything. It was tuff to compress the spring. The Haines manual says to compress until the spring is loose and then drop the lower ball joint. I compressed it till it was about loose. There seems to be no way (or room for)that spring to come out without the lower arm dropping way down (after separating lower ball joint)or the spindle being taken off. I don't have air tools so I bought a spindle fork/separator. I tried to separate the lower ball joint. Didn't happen. The ball joint came out half inch and stopped. Maybe my problem is that I am not compressing the spring enough. But if i'm having this much trouble how will it be putting ball the ball joint back in with a longer coil spring. My friends cousin works at Riverside's Custom Motor Sports. He called the guy, he said that they won't install a Doestch coil because he doesn't like Doetsch and have had too many complaints. Why didn't I hear this before? I could have got the Fabtech. Maybe they are just biased but I am pretty discouraged. I am 27 and have worked on VW's tons, 79 Mustang, and 96 S10. But this sucked. Stealwings, how do you get the spring out without mesing with the balljoint and how will you get a longer one in?
