Subject: 32x11.5 on 15x7???
IP: Logged

Message:

i asked fabtech what setup this was truck was running, they said a 32x11.5-15 tire on a 15x7 rim. All the 32x11.5's i've looked at, need an 8 inch rim. I would rather put them on the 7 inch rim because I think it looks cleaner, and maybe wont rub as much, but is this ok to do?

yeah, but you have a 4x4 :) this is a 2wd with a 3" lift, and I've heard a lot of people rub with 32x11.5's on 8" wide rims

Dude, go for the 8" and trim a little. You'll be sorry if you don't. Can't think of a reason why at the moment but, hey, bigger is better, right??

actually, I really like how that truck looks in the pic, just needs fender flares. Its perfect, don't need any bigger than that.

I am with Blue Twister, go with 15x8in rims. That is if you want to buy new ones. I bought Amer. Racing Nitros 15x7in and I now regret it. I have a 90' 2wd , lifted 5in inches. Can run 31x10.50 with no rub. I am going to take the fenders out alittle. Good ole Sawzall. Want 31x12.50's or larger. But I can oonly go with a 11.50 due to rims width. If I had a 8in rim, I could go either 10.50, 11.50, or 12.50. Just more opitons. Good Luck.

but my point here is that:

people do run 32x11.5's on 7 inch rims, right? even tho its not recomended. All i need to know is that its doable and not going to cause problems

thanks guys

Yes you can run 11.50's on 15x7's. Go to my website. GO to the photo album link. Go under the "pre-lift pics". Those are all with 32x11.50 BFG's on factory 15x7's. Not a problem in the world with that. I aired down to about 15 PSI at the beach with no problems at all. Running 33x12.50's on 15x8's now. 1 inch wider tire, 1 inch wider rim. Have ran this combo for 11 years.

I would never recommend mounting tires on wheels that are narrower or wider than the tire manufacturer recommends. There are people who do it and swear it is OK... but I wouldn't recommend it.

If 11.50s on 7" is OK, then 11.50s on 8" is not going to cause that much of a problem. You could fix any rubbing that MIGHT occur.

Manufacturers recomendations are just that. Recomendations, not absolutes. They are also mainly for to CYA the maker for legal reasons from people who would put tires on a narrower rim and then air it down and drive like a mad man. Just an example.
For what its worth.

I agree with Hawkeye. Plain and simple, 15x7 WILL work fine with 32x11.5's. A 15x7 rim will give you more "off-road protection" because the sidewall of the tire bubbles out more, thats a good thing if you need that. A 15x8 on the same tire will give you a little less sidewall action but somwtimes looks better (IMO). Don't worry about fender rub, go with what you want. My 15x10's work great (with lots of trimming...hehe)

hey hawkeye, I checked out your pics, looks good to me, now my question is what kind of exhaust do you have? or is it custom? I really like where and how the tips exit

also, you have pro comp x-terrain and your wife has the pro comp all terrains...I'm trying to decide between these two, main gonna be on road with the occasional off-road travel, I want them to be quiet too. I'm thinking the all terrain will be better.

Exhaust is a single in dual out FLowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow that I had my exhaust guy run the pipes with. So yeah, pretty much a custom job. If you are going to be primarily on road or have any ice/snow go with the AT's. They are very good tires and for an All Terrain to have a 50,000 mile tread wear warranty you cant go wrong.

I asked about this to some people and they tols me it was a 32 also but I don't know by what , nowmy question was answered today . My dakota has 16's somebody told me it was better to stay with 16's cause of the abs ............metric tires are more expensive 265 75 16 is a 31.8 inch tire a 285 75 16 is a 32.8 inch tire the 285 will rub with that lift ....... also that lift is for a 2 wd truck what I was told 8"s will not fit cause will hit on the a arm cause of the off set it has to have 3.75 " rear spacing ........ if not why wont the stock rims fit ????? I'll stay with the stock and change the tire , but it wont , I'm going to do the lift and going for the 265's , procomp mud terrain , they look really good , 4 wheel parts has a good deal on the tires ......

4 wheel parts has good deals on tire/wheel packages but they do not have any wheels that will fit my 01 Dak, I have called them several times to make sure. Since the Dak has a 6 on 4.5" center, it is as uncommon as keeping Bill Clinton faithful. So I will have to buy my wheels elsewhere and my ProComps from 4 wheel parts it seems. If you are going to go with bigger tires, get the SuperLift Speed Recalibrater(correct name?) which is adjustable and corrects your speedo shiftpoints, abs, etc. so it doesn't matter what size rim you go with I believe. I am gonna order one when I get my tires and am stickin with 16" just cuz I like the look of the bigger wheel and am willin to pay a little extra for the metric. I'll leave the 2WD questions on backspacing/tire size to those that have experience but I believe a 15x8 aftermarket wheel with less backspacing or positive offset will not rub the a-arms. Let me know if you a get a different answer on wheels for your Dak from 4 wheel parts, Thanks.

8's will work, you just need less back spacing, but yeah, that is the case with the comptech 3" lift.

Yeah, a 7", 8", 10" rim will all fit the Fabtech kit as long as they all have the correct backspacing. Your stock rims will not fit but you can still use another 16" rim if you wanted.

If anyone really cares I have a set of eagle alloys that I bought from 4 wheel parts they are 15x8 with a 3.5" or a 3.75" backspace. I also have a set of 15x7 ultras with basicaly a stock backspacing. I need to get rid of both sets so i can hook some body up on a real good deal for either set. Or a great deal on both. If interested you can e-mail me at r_smeltz@hotmail.com or reply here.
