Subject: Body Lift on my '99? IP: Logged
Message: Hi, I've got a '99 4x4 Regular cab
sport(3.9/auto) Outside of the painted grill and
bumpers, it's a plain-jane truck. No
fenderflairs and the ugly 15x7 wheels. Without
spending a fortune, I'd like to get some 15x8
wheels with some 31" or 32" AT tires on it. I'm
considering either a 2" or 3" bodylift. How big
of a project is a bodylift? Is there any more to
installing a 3" verses a 2"? What's the best kit
to go with?(I'll need the bumper brackets too)
Thanks Alot of Any Imput!,
-Rob

Message: Go for the 3" body lift from Performance Accessories. It comes with everything you'll need, it'll cost you about $150 and it's easy enough to do it in your driveway. You'll be able to fit 33" tires on it and totally change the look of the truck! You can check out ebay for some cheap wheels or offroadwarehouse.com (I think that's it) usually has some deals on.
Check out my truck, I've also got a '99 4x4 but it's extened cab

Message: Like Canadakota said, get the Performance Accessories 3" body lift. It is something that you can do yourself and it comes with brackets for remounting the bumpers. I did mine in my driveway with a socket set, a drill, the jack that came with the truck, and a cinder block. And I am by no means mechanically inclined. It does take a while, but as long as you follow the directions, you shouldn't have any problem. There are also people on these boards for any questions you may have during the install.

Message: Any inmput from you guys on getting a 2inch body lift? they make them for up to 99's but not for 2000+ what's the difference with the 2000+ daks from the 99s?
I'd really rather go 2 inch then 3inch.

Message: I got the 3" for my 02 dakota 4x4, and it only took me 5 hours at the most, but they failed to think about making it for a manual 5-speed. so I drove around for 3 months with my console off before they sent me a 3" piece of bar stock. So I had to cut my shifter and weld the bar stock into my shifter. The only thing I don't like about it is that my steering wheel is slightly turned to the right, and when I hit a bump you can hear a clunk in the steering column, and yes everything is tight. I guess that what happens when you try to save on $$$$.

Message: You can get it for Auto, that's what I have on my '99 and it should be the same. From what I remember there was nothing special that needed to be done for the auto???
