Subject: PA Body Lift Steering Adapter IP: Logged
Message: I'm installing the 3" Body lift right now and after putting on the steering adapter the original knuckle once connected is hitting the motor mount. I've done the searches on this site and others and some people have trimmed the motor mount and others have trimmed the bolt. Neither of these options seem "right". Anyone have an ideas, thoughts, suggestions, alternative solutions????

Message: 2001 QC 4x2. The rest of the lift has gone well. When you insert the adapter between the steering u-joint and the steering gear box the OEM knuckle hits the motor mount bracket when the steering wheel is turned. In fact the OEM tolerance is fairly tight to begin with and you can see the motor mount is fabricated with a step in it. After doing some searches I found a couple of other guys who talked about clunking and contact when turning the wheel. One guy said he shaved part of the motor mount and another said he shaved the bolt connecting the knuckle / adapter. Our solution is flipping the steering shaft and putting the adapter at the top between the firewall and the shaft instead of by the R&P gearbox.

Message: hmmm... I didn't have this problem with mine either. I will look at mine in the morning and see if I can figure out where exactly you're talking about and how close mine is.

Message: So I talked to a Tech Support guy at Performance Accessories where he acknowledged they have had the steering linkage make contact with the motor mount on other Dakota's previously. "That's a Dodge for you" he says... I say, "yeah well I'm 90% done with your lift on my truck what's the answer?" He says "grind away the part of the motor mount where it makes contact." I don't know about all of you, but I'm not very excited by that solution...

Message: I had to grind some of the area of the mount. I didn't grind the adapter.
Wouldn't want any other!

Message: Yeah that's what happened to me also. I bought a dremmel and a couple of grinding bits ($30) and had to grind and grind until it finally could turn freely.
