Message: Hello again.
After doing some lurking here and some online searching, I see that there are not a lot of options for lifting a Dak.
So, my questions are;
What are some of the lift kits out there for Daks? Suspension as well as body. Pros and cons of each?
When adding 33" tires, what size rims do you use, 8", 10" 12"?
If tire rub is an issue with 10" rims and 33" tires(I beleive HawkEye posted something about this) has anyone changed the backspacing? Has this help or hindered? Does fender rub then become the issue?
My plan is to put on 32" or 33" meats and that is all as this will be my everyday driver and I don't plan on doing any hardcore wheelin'....I own an 82' CJ8 with a SOA and 36" meats that I use for that. SWB has it's pluses.
Let me also add, that I'm only interested in a mild lift, 2" or 3". And that personally, I do not think that a body lift is always the best choice(even though it is the cheapest). From what I see on this board, that seems to be the first choice for many on gaining tire clearence. Is this just because of the limited availability of suspension lifts, or am I not looking in the right places?
Thanks all!
Zeke

Message: Lots of discussions about this.. check some of the older posts.. Also it depends on your truck unlike the CJ's which have stayed the same.. the Daks change every about 5 years.. if you have a 2000+ Dak you have 2 options.. a 10" suspension lift from whiplash or a 3" body lift.
3" body lift.. 15x8 33x12.5x15's will work... TIGHT but will work might have to cut the bumper just a touch. If you've been wheelin' w/ your Jeep you probably know the pros & cons of a body lift..
As far as suspension ... I'm inline for who ever comes out w/ the first one.. Sometime in 2002 is the date from Rancho.

Message: Theres not a limited choice on susp lifts. There are none for 2000 & up. Only option available is a body lift. Its either that or nothing. Besides, IFS lifts run upwards of $1300 plus installation and I came up with the $200 for my body lift a lot easier. No way can you run 33's on 10 inch wide rims with out some pretty good rubbing. Backspacing isnt going make any difference with just a 3 inch lift.

Message: Thanks guys...you've just ruined my day.......guess I'll have to go the other way and lower it.
Just kidding. ;)>
Shoot me please if I ever post on here that I plan on doing such a thing.
So that explains why I only saw 99' lifts. I was thinking that maybe they might fit the 2002 as well....oh well. I still have my Jeep to wheel in, and the Dakota is still a sweet ride anyways.
Going to the dealer tomorrow morning to talk numbers on a 2002 Quad Cab Sport Plus with the 4.7L, 5 speed, 3.92 gears and other goodies.
Thanks agian for all the info!

Message: I have done alot of reasearch on this matter. The only company that has come out with a 3" suspension lift is "Rancho". The cost of the lift kit which does not include the shocks is $1'699.00. The lift kit is on back order projected untill the end of Feburary. If you contact your local dealer they can contact "Rancho" and get a part # for you. This price did not include Shocks,Tires,Labor. I hope this helps you out. I will be getting this lift kit sometime this year. As soon as I do I will post pictures.

Message: Jesse, what year Dakota do you have? $240 sounds a little high for a 3" body lift. You should be able to find it for under $200. If that price includes gap gaurds, then it sounds like a pretty fair deal. If you go with the body lift, buy the one made by Performance Accessories.
If you have a 2000+ Dakota and are interested in the new Rancho lift, check out this thread.

You can get the lift including Rancho RS9000 shocks for $1385. If you have a pre 2000 Dakota, it will be a little cheaper.
