The caliper bolts aren't really bolts, they're slide pins. They're Allen head pins that hold the brake caliper onto the steering knuckle. There's two per side. The torque spec is 30 N-m (22 ft-lbs). The torque hub/spindle nut to 251 N-m(185 ft-lbs). That's everything that you're going to have to remove except the lug nuts on the wheels which are 115 to 157 N-m (85 to 115 ft-lbs).

Oh yeah, when I said to be careful to not strip the caliper bolts, I meant be careful to not overtighten them as they strip out very easily. 22 ft-lbs basically means "nice and snug," not "good and tight."

You got it. But my Haynes manual says 28 ft-Lbs but I think the dealer called out for 22.

Wouldn't want any other!

Hey one more question, I removed the hub/spindle nut (which broke one of my socket wrenches cuz it was sooo damn tight) and it has "Do Not Re Use" engraved on it. I am thinking of going to dodge and get 2 more but if you guys state otherwise that i can use it again, i will.

Watcha ya think?

That's a first for me. Couldn't see why you can't reuse the old bolt. As long as it's torqued right.

Wouldn't want any other!

Talked with the dealer today and they said not to reuse the bolt cuz at the end of it, there's a plastic lock that locks it in place when tightened to 150 lbs. That's why i broke two socket wrenches trying to get it off :) Each bolt cost 12 dollar each so i got two and my truck's up and running. Now i'm just waiting till Jan 15 to get my rim from Papa Smurf.

The process nearly took me a week. Haha...only because i had to constantly commute back and forth to pep boys for tools and to dodge for parts. Finding aride was tricky too. Dodge had the parts over night and that was a plus. Removing everything was easy..except for the 35mm hub nut which broke two HD socket wrenches. After getting a really long heavy duty wrench, i got it off and removed the bearings. They were very worn and it was clearly visible due to the leaking grease. Putting on the new bearings was easy but getting the new brakes on was a toughy. Had to squeeze the @#$! out of the brake boots to get room for the rotors. Took me nearly 30 min per side on the brakes but got em done and on tight. Waited one last night for the hub nut to arrive at dodge and completed the repairs. It rides like new and no more vibrations or screeching. Last modification for a long time will be the 589's in january. Overall, it was a good learning experience and anyone with minimum mechanical skills can complete this job. I gotta applaud to Pep Boys for their outstanding customer service. Each broken tool was replaced immediately without a receipt and their knowledge on parts and specifications was a big help. Total for all parts and tools:

Wheel Bearings: 2 x $156
Hub Nut: 2 x $12
Brake Pads: $41 for 4
Torque Wrench: $20
24 inch Socket Wrench: $20
35 mm Socket: $7
Nice Running truck: Priceless
:)

A big thanks to you guys on the board for your crucial information which i followed without a doubt.

Right on dude. That's not a bad price on the hub bearings. Mine was $170 a piece. You'll like the 589's. It fits good on these Dodge's. It has the backspacing needed for a Suspension lift.

Wouldn't want any other!

sorry for bringing up an old post but atleast i did some homework. i had recently replaced my hub/bearing assembly because of the grinding and vibration sounds. when i took the channel lock off i found that there was 6 bearings missing and that the housing for the bearings were totally destroyed. anyway...it has been about 4 months now and im getting that same vibration. i have to take a look at the hub again. my question is since i have a 3" body lift and 31" tires, can the hub and bearings handle the extra weight? im 2wd. im sure the 4wd hubs are more durable than the 2wd. also, if i have a ball joint problem, will the hub/bearing assembly be effected? i have 105000 miles and the engine still runs strong, so im not looking for a new truck just yet. thanks

Your hubs should be fine with the 31's. I ran 31 inch mud terrains with 2 inch wheel spacers so they would fit with the fabtech kit...and that was too much stress on the bearings because of the spacers. But if you are running stock rims, u should be fine.

Anyone interested in buying four BRAND NEW Goodyear Wrangler MTR's? They are size 285.75 R16 (equivalent to a 33x11.50) and have not been used at all.

(if you want) The tires also come with four brand new 16x8 factory wheels from Dodge. These rims are in flawless condition as well.

I am selling this package because I have to trade my Dakota in for a car, and I don't really plan on fitting 33 inch tires on it. So take advantage of this deal because I intend to sell them at a bargain price. If you are interested please email me with questions/comments and I would be more than happy to reply. More pictures are available as well.
