Subject: Best factory exhaust system IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 V-8 Dakota that needs a new exhaust system from the converter back, so I thoughtI might change out the whole system. I think it's 2-1/2" to the cat and about a 2-1/4" tailpipe. Does the RT exhaust have a bigger pipe? What about the 4.7? I like to enlarge the outlet on the y-pipe to 3" or 3-1/2" and run big pipe all the way back. Has anyone tried a 93 y-pipe on a newer truck? Thanks.

Message: The bigger your pipe the less back pressure you will have. Go 3 inch in and 2.5 out. Highflow cat and flowmaster 50 series, nice quiet rumble and gets loud when you want it to. No drone in the cab either.
Or do some headers and split the whole system with an x pipe, 2 flowmasters, etc.
