275/40/17 looks bad ass on these rims. wide as hell 11.1 inches, and really low sidewall.

Hey, me got a picture of your truck with these 40 series tires on
them? How is the turning radius any rub?

275/40/17 won't look right unless you are slammed.
Thats a 26" tire. The stock 255/55/17 is a 28" tire. So thats 2 more inches of wheel gap. If your stock height and want wider I'd go with the nitto 450s 275/50/17. They look good and are less than 1/2" shorter than stock. The BFG KDWS 255/50/17 are awesome tires. Great traction and handling. They are 27" tires and look good on a 2/3 drop but not stock height.

Well i just bought a Belltech 2/4 drop kit so it will be lower than a stock R/T so that will help the looks of a shorter sidewall

the only thing wrong with putting on that wide of a tire is that the sidewalls roll as you are turning...your truck will then slide more sideways...but if your into looks then thats a good look...but i figure RT's are not or looks.

With a 2/4 drop I'd stick with a 27" tire like the BFG KDWS 255/50/17. Thats just my opinion though. I think the 26" tires would look silly. They might not look bad top to bottom on a 2/4 drop but from the front of the wheel well to the tire and from the back of the wheel well to the tire is gonna have a huge space. I think I explaned that right.lol. No what I mean?

the sidewalls don't roll! these tires are amazing in the corners! i have a 3/5 drop so they look sweet, and get me off the line a lot better too! the tires are actually 25 7/8 inches. but nearly a foot wide!!!!! look awesome from behind, which is the view most people will be seeing.

I have 275/50/17 nitto's and like them better than the 265/60/17 yokahama's I had. My truck is '01 quad w/stock suspension. They would look perfect for the truck if the ass end was dropped 2", but it still doen't stop guys from complimenting me on my truck all the time. I have never had a rubbing problem W/the nitto's at stock ride height.

I'm considering a bigger diameter tire, but I don't want to go to a 60 series to do it. I'm thinking about the 20"R/T "look alike" chrome wheels I saw advertised. My R/T looks weird from the side with the huge fender openings and the little bitty 255/55/17's on it. This thing needs at least a 30" diameter tire to look right. That would require a 275/60/17. I'm afraid my truck won't handel as good as it does now with sidewalls that tall. Has anyone ran 60's or 65's on the R/T?

With a 30" tire your truck won't handle nearly as good and I don't think it would look right imo. It would also give you a higher final gear ratio, probably enough to where it would feel like you lost some low end. You would probably go from a 3.92 to a 3.55 with 30" tires but I'm just guessing.

Have a '95 Gen. II 4X4 with 275-60-17. The 275 tire is about 30" in height and does not rub.

R/T, My C.C 98 R/T has the BFG´s 275/60/17 on it. It looks great but it´s not good for performance because of the longer gears by the new diameter on higher tires. My truck with these set of tires acelerates a lot slower comparing to the stock 255/55 that I had before
You will also notice the rubbing problem when steering the weels like I do.
I´m looking for new 275/50/17 nittos or any other American tires this size here in my country..
Hope this helps,
Tiago

Don't forget if you change tire diameter to recalibrate the speedo for the change.
