I just saw the magnum intake and heads edelbrock offers now. Has anyone tried them? How much more power do you think they make?

Did you go to www.edelbrock.com? They break down the entire parts list and show the dyno chart for the small block. The torque curve never fell below 300ft/lbs and HP peaks at 417.

Ooops! That was the non-magnum package I quoted. You say they have a MAGNUM head/intake package? Where did you see this? I'm very interested.

Well, I like those heads they are offering for the Magnum engine now. The intake and exhaust runners have larger volume than the R/T head DC is offering. Unfortunately, they aren't available. They listed AutoZone as a distributer.
I called them and they said they can't get them because Edelbrock hasn't made them yet. They said they are waiting for the demand to go up before they make them. They probably don't know what they are talking about AZ sucks anyway.

I read in late 2003 that they had projected early summer '04 as a production goal for the Magnum heads/intake.

That would be OK. That's when I plan to do my upgrade. Projected dates always seem to get pushed back. If they said summer 04 that probably means Jan 05. I want to do the heads, cam and headers this summer. I'm going to wait on the intake. I don't think the M-1 is all it's cut out out to be, especially for $360.00. I may just run my stock intake and wait for Edelbrock to make a MPI intake for the magnum heads. You know they have to be working on a prototype for our application since they already have the heads.

Why not pop some holes in a non mpi version intake manifold? Also does anyone know how hard it would be to convert a r/t to carb?

They'll be nice to see. I wouldn't mind selling them if they're a good piece. A couple things I'd question. The exhaust valves are small. 1.60 vs. 1.625 on stock or R/T heads. I'm not sure I like that. The other is the chamber size at 58cc. For example, R/T heads are 60cc and the aluminum Magnum heads are 53cc. On an aluminum head they could have gone to a smaller chamber, as on the aluminum Magnum, and bumped the compression. At 58cc the compression will be close to stock. You can run more compression with aluminum heads, why not smaller chambers? They're not ideal for blowers anyway because of the inherent sealing issues (normally not a problem all motor) so why keep the compression close to stock?

I saw those small Ex-valves also, but the volume of the intake and exhaust runners are larger. In fact, the runners on their new Magnum head are larger than the runners on the LA heads they made 417hp with. You could shave the heads to bring the chamber volume down to 48-53cc.

Another thing I question was the 11/32 valve stems. EDDY is claiming that the 1.6 with 11/32 stems flow more than the stock. I don't see how. I thought the stock valves had 8mm stems. 8mm is smaller than 11/32 by .029".

I'm going to have to contact Edelbrock. I may go for the big valve heads they have for the LA engine. I'll just have to have them shaved to get the compression up. They have 88cc chambers. Those chambers are WAY too big. I can put a Victor intake on there then and have the intake ports machined for injectors.

You're right, stock valves are 8mm stems. Well, the proof will be when we can get a set and run them.
