Message: Hey,
Is this Tornado air-swirling air intake thing just a bunch of hype, or does it really work to improve gas mileage?
Check out the band:

Message: DOES NOT WORK! Trust me I know from an earlier experience. Save your bucks and get a good cold air intake.

Message: It REDUCES HP by cutting off the air. Because these engines have O2 sensors, the PCM adjust the fuel ratio to 14.7 regardless of anything upstream or downstream. Because you are choking the engine down (less air) you also use less gas. If you cut back on the air flow 10% then the gas consumption will also drop about 6 to 10%. It takes gas to make HP. If you are using less gas then you are more than likely making less HP. Is that what you want?

Message: good point, never really thought of that, in my mind, i would rather pay more for HP than to save it on gas consumption.

Message: Hi, dodgeheaded friends, recently i have installed the tornado on my 2003 quad cab baby and i had been saving a lot of juice. just make sure that you disconnet the battery for a while so the computer (ecm) adjust to default parameters (air flow, speed, temp, trohtle positions, etc.)remember, they program as you drive.also you will notice much better aceleration(pick up)hoping this work for you guys too. happy trailing

Message: Hey,
I put a restrictor plate in my intake just for the heck of it.
You right, i do get way better gas mileage, but not as much hp. Jump from like 18 to 21 mpg on the highway. But, what a dog, not much power for passing.
I might put it back on, if the gas prices goes pass $2 per gallon.

Message: Tornados are useless crap. Theyre made to be sold to soccer moms and uneducated car owners in an attempt to fleece $50 from someone. Wish I thought of it! Then again, I don't think I should give credit to someone who invents something that does nothing.
Throttle body spacers and tornados are nothing but snake oil. Both cost $50-$70 and do absolutely nothing.

i got 1 from jc whitley used it for 2 weeks and sent it back in exchange for a set of fog lights for my bumper guard.
$65 for a piece of stamped tin that killed my power and maby .5 mpg.
put a cover on your bed and do the electric fan,i get 22mpg running 70 mph 100 miles a day to work.
i have a 98 dac 3.9l automatic reg cab.

Message: If, you want to save gas, get a piece of junk 4-cyclinder for $1,000. Then drive it till the wheels fall off.
That's how you save gas. You won't be driving in style or comfort. But, at $2+ per gallon now days, the saving really build up.

Message: cigmon,
You can't change the fact that these engines are contoled by a PCM that continually adjust the air/fuel ratio to 14.7:1. No matter what you put up stream or down stream of this engine, the PCM will always correct the air/fuel ratio back to 14.7:1. You can improve the efficiency which will improve your fuel mileage by reducing friction and improving the combustion process, but the Tornado does neither of those.
To have doubled your fuel mileage like you claimed would require doubling the amount of air to fuel ratio (29:1).
The engine won't even run at that ratio. If you could get it to run at that ratio it wouldn't run very far before it melted the pistons down.
Your better off buying a new set of spark plugs and some quality synthetic oil.

Message: I thought about those tornado things, and actully thought about it long and hard, if its such a technological advancment why dont they design the air tube intakes with little fins inside like the tornado? engineers that design cars think of every possible thing for easy horsepower and im sure they tried it and it didnt work and thats why they arent in cars from the factory.

Message: Jason,
That is the non-logical answer to the tornado question. If it was so good, why doesnt Automotive makers include it in the cars? Theyre always trying to improve their fleet economy average and that would do it if it was true. So there.... if the big boys dont use it, neither should you.

Message: Mr. Sleepy,
You could use that logic on all the mods we perform on our vehicles. They don't always do what is going to make our vehicles run the most efficent. They do the least they have to do to make it pass the EPA standards in the name of cutting cost. When they do a design change to improve emissions they usually try to "forcast" what new laws the EPA plans to issue and make the new engine designs exceed those future laws. That keeps them from having to make changes every year and that further cuts down on cost.
I agree that if the Tornado did what it claims it does, there would be something simular to it incorporated into the design of either the throttle body or the intake.

Message: don't like current gas prices? call your congressperson and tell them you support drilling in alaska. nuff gas up there for the whole usa to use without depending on opec for quite some time. just think, opec's biggest idiot buyer - usa - stops buying oil from them. watch as worldwide prices plummet.
