Message: my 94 v6 would stall during idle around parking lots or when putting it into gear.
it would start, drive and idle at a stop light fine.
the egr valve was gone and the tapping of the accelerator to get around the parking lot was slight enough to cause this.
I did not get a engine light as a warning to me.
$300 for an $85 part, but I did not have a code reader that the garage said came up.

I don't think you have an EGR valve on your year model.

Message: I have no idea if the 01 dakota has an EGR valve. I would think so due to all the emissions regs. I believe the valve re routes the exhaust gas thus carring a lot of crap with it. This gunk cloggs up the valve and impeeds the opening closing the valve during low idle.
I dont know if you can check it yourself unless you have some sort of code reader?? I am not versed in these types of repairs.
My 94 valve is on the pass side, behind the TB, top of engine, about the size of a hockey puck with a small vacuum hose.
When I changed mine the TB had to be cleaned too. It, including the IAC (on the back of the TB) was quiste a mess after 165k. I used Chrysler TB cleaner and removed the 2 tx-25 screws and use a toothbrush to clean the IAC. I used a small mirror and light to check inside the port of the IAC, as its on the back. (DONT move the plunger on the removed IAC)
Good luck, not a hard job other than identifing all the electronic controlled valves motors.
