The H.O. cams you see talked about on here are actually the cams for the 4.7L v8 (287cid) and are very easy to install. For your 318 it would be a little bit more work but if you did do it, you'd notice some really nice gains for sure. Good luck!

Mr. Cams,

HHHhheeeellllloooooooo!!

HO cams in a 5.2 (318)? Would you put both of them, like the 4.7 uses, or just one, like the 5.2 uses? And if you only used one, what would the other 4 cylinders do? And, if the're VERY easy to install, I guess you've done it before?

Josh,
He really doesn't know what he's talking about. You can get an aftermarket cam for your 5.2, lots of choices. The 5.2 has one cam, the 4.7 is SOHC, two heads, two cams.

Some 5.2 person will chime in about cost, ease of installation, manufacturers, etc.

I see you spewing your drivel on here all the time and if you weren't such an asshat you'd see that in no way did I imply that he'd be using the 4.7 cams in his 318. Notice I said in the first line which engine those cams were for? I would think the original poster would know that he needs to get a custom grind or some other kind of after market cam for his 318 and not the 2 cams from the 287. Perhaps you're the one who's clueless? No doubt. Yes chump, I've installed the HO cams on two Dakotas and also put a cam into a 360 so I would say I know what I'm talking about. Read before you spew, assclown. Good day to you.

these cams should be available at a dodge dealer right? my buddy works at one and said he has no listing for them. does he have to look under jeep? also he said that the performance computer listed in the manual isnt available. i can find any parts for the 4.9. (just kidding, just wanted to spark the critics on here) are we enthusiasts or critics?

Cams,

NO, you inplied that it would be a little more work, but the HO's would work in a 5.2. That's the way I read it anyway. And yes, you didn't say outright they would work. Read your post again.

Glad you know how to cuss when you type, who's the chump?

And a good day to you mr cams. cams, your first or last name?

Yes, only jeeps have had the 4.7 HO, so no dodge listing. He's also right about the computer, it was listed but never released.

You know Todd, Cams was very polite in his response both to Josh and (considering what he was replying to) to you. I have also done many V8 cam swaps in my time and I saw no flaw in his response to Josh. You, however, seem to have gone out of the way to try to make Cams look ignorant while only proving what an asshat you really are. Take my Mom's advice since your's was obviously negligent, "If you can't be nice then shut the F___ up!"
Josh, a cam swap in a conventional single cam V8 is fairly involved. It generally requires removing everything above the heads and in front of the block (including the radiator and sometimes the grill). If you have never been that far into a motor before, find someone who has to help you, or pay a mechanic to do the swap. Dodge is not the place to shop for HO cams for a old school V8 like the 360. Call a local cam grinder or visit your local speed shop. They can give you guidance on what grind will provide you with the tork/power curve you are looking for in the RPM range you are building for.

thanks for all the info.
i have not been that far into the engine yet and would not feel comfortable doing this so i would prolly pay to have it done. so with that being said about how much would having it installed cost?
thanks again

cams,

I thought about it on the way home. NO mater how I read it, I was sarcastic in my response, trying to make your post seem bad.

In person, I don't like it when others try to cut people down, so they can look better, and I never do. I should start a new practice, treating people with computer personality dissorders.

I've been sarcastic before, to the point where someone felt the need to use my unregistered screen name, and try to make me look bad.

My humble apologies, and I'll try and turn it down several notches before replying to a post in the future.

Sometimes we all need a reality check, and at times, I certainly do.

Todd Bouton

Now, how can I get this new personality dissorder, for online dissorders started? :)

You would have many many choices for a 318.
Look for a speed shop like Lopers (here in AZ).
Tell them what you got and what you want such as drag, street, tow, etc.

Depends on what other mods you have. I've never installed a radical cam into a fuel injected vehicle. Only carbed with of course the triumphant Holley Double Pumper and stuff like single plane intakes, headers, descent heads and the engine went lumpity-lump-lump!
That is the best sound you will ever hear from a fairly radical V8. Kinda makes me wish at times I still had something "old school" again.

Oh yeah. It would be quite involved to do in a 318. Gotta time (or degree) the cam and make sure the lift is ok with heads, pistons, etc.

Around 180 deg adv duration and approx .500 inches valve lift would get the loping started!

I appreciate your apology as I definitely wasn't expecting it, rather a flame war this morning. Let's try to keep this a friendly place to ask questions and seek advice. Perhaps we can help each other some time in the future. Take care.

Hey Josh,I will try and answer your post.If I was you I would not do the cam cause it alone would not do much for you with out the supporting parts.I would start with things like 50mm F&B t-body,a good cai,and one of the mopar performance pcm,and a set of 1.7 roller rockers. With these items you will get the torque up which would be great for your 4x4.Then If you want to do the exhaust. You can take these things off easily if want to get rid of it.
