Subject: New Dakota bouncy IP: Logged
Message: This is the first truck i have ever had, i bought it new a few days ago. However when driving and im sitting in the drivers seat it seems very bouncy , sorry "bouncy" is the only word i can used to describe it. When i asked the mechanic at the dealer about it, he sais that is natural for a pickup truck becuase the back is so much lighter than the front and becuase the suspension is tighter. Is this correct? should it be so bouncy? As i never had a truck before i do not know if that is a one of their characteristics. Thanks for the help and info

Message: Yes, that's mostly true. Especially with a regular or club cab and a long bed. A trucks suspension works better with a little weight to get it down in to the springs. Do you notice a difference between an empty tank and a full one? Since the tank is in the middle, it's not as noticable. But older trucks that had the tank behind the axle it was real noticable.
You might try a better shock. I upgraded to Rancho 5000's on my '01 QC and it made a huge difference.

Message: Its a 2003 club cab slt, got a great deal on it, even though it has the 3.9, but thats enough for me as long as i can pull a 17 foot bass boat. But thanks for the info and anyone please jump in. Been worried for a few days now that something was wrong since it seemed so bouncy but also thought it just might be how a pickup truck behaves since i never had one.

Message: Most trucks bounce somewhat because of the lack of weight in the rear. You will probably notice the most amount of bounce on a freeway or highway, especially the freeways/highways that are sectional (you can see where the section connects to the next). On roads that are continuous (no breaks or sections), you will probably not experience as much bounce. A good heavy quality tonneau and quality shocks will also help, but it will not completely eliminate the "bounce". Next time your on the freeway look at the beds of other trucks and you will see the "bounce" on all of them.

Message: If you are concerned you could upgrade to a good hydrolic shock.
I like the Rancho's.
It will greatly improve your handling all the way around. less bounce and better corners.(less body roll.)

Message: Check the tire pressures. A lot of new vehicles are delivered with max pressure in the tires. My CC had 40 pounds in all of the tires.
