Message: Sorry I ended up having some guests stop in when I started this thread.
I like many others here searched this site for advise on a good set of shocks. It becomes obvious that most anything is better then wheezy old stockers. So most respond favorably to what they put on.
Heres the what I discovered. First were the KYB Mono Max,a very reasoably price product. This shock had excellent turn in response(I'm a big fan of that)Very little body roll. Wheel hop reduced to nill. As you may guess it revealed most road imperfections and transmitted them to the cab, even the little ripples. They do give you the confidnece to stand on it through the cornors.
Next up was the Edelbrock IAS. I was looking for the same steering response and body roll performance in these as the KYB's with less of an "edge" that was present in the KYB's. I found it to have quite a bit more body roll than I would have expected for a performance shock. Turn in was not crisp. It did take the large bumps better than the others in this test and smoothed out the little stuff. Some wheel hop was present. If you are willing to give up some steering response and some "confidence factor" for ride comfort you'll like this product.
Next on this quest was the Bilstine. Steering response was back! Crisp turn in was also back. The KYB's still having the slight advantage here, but not by alot. Litte ripples were smoothed right out. Larger bumps were more noteable but not harsh or at the cost of good driver feedback. Very very little wheel hop existed.
I should also note that this was conducted on a 1997 2WD Club Cab Dakota. Stock springs with a Roadmaster active suspension system. Tires are 235-70-R15 Bridgestone Duler AT Revo's. (Best truck tire of this type I've owned over the years, but thats another topic.
This is my first post on Dodgedakotas forums so I'm looking forward to meeting and gaining knowledge from all of you and that you take it easy on the new guy.

Message: I've got the KYB Monomax's on my Dak as well as the RAS. Love them both. I definitley recommend the RAS. I carried 2 loads rated at 2,000lbs a piece about 3 weeks ago. I drove each load about 5 miles. There was some slouching in the rear but nothing to dramatic. The dak still accelerated smoothly with traffic. I don't think the tires appreciated the load to much but it was a short distance and in the end I was very impressed.

Message: Thanks for a great informative post. What were you running for tire pressure ? I was thinking about the Edlebrocks but now leaning more towards the Bilstines.
