Message: What is a TB? Where is it located, near carburator or fuel injectors? What kind of power and mpg gains if any?
If possible, would it be advantage to put one on my '87 3.9L V6 4x4 Dak.?
Planning to put a 40 series Flowmaster w/ dual turndowns behind rear tires this summer.
Please excuse my stupidity. :( HEHEHE

Message: TB = Throttle Body
Your '87 is an electronically controlled carburetor and I personally don't know of anywhere to find a modified one. However, check the Mopar Performance catalog for the performance parts for the '87 V6.

Message: Hey Dirt,
If you want a Throttle Body fuel injection system, you could probably get one at a boneyard but you will need the manifold too because of the bolt pattern. You will also need the computer and wiring harness. Then you can upgrade:)

Message: The throttle body or TB is what a fuel injection system uses to supply air. In a carburator air and fuel are mixed and supplied to the engine as a mixture. In a fuel injuection engine there are injectors at every cylinder putting presice measurements of fuel in the engine but the air comes from the throttle body which looks like a carb and sits were a carb would on the engine. If you have a carburator then you will not have a throttle body on your truck nor would you have fuel injectors.

Message: I know a carbed engine doesn't have injectors but, I didn't know if both types of engine had TB's or not.
Thanks to all who replied!! :)

Message: I have an idea. See if you can acquire a 1988-1990 TBI system that was used for those model year Dakota's. That stands for "throttle body injected". Its ALMOST fuel injection, but not quite carbed. You might have to go to a junkyard to fine one that isnt used, as Mopar has none. I would assume that if you get one, it should fit on top of your intake manifold promptly. You might need to tweak the fuel lines, etc., but I'm sure this would allow you the same fuel injection that I have on my 1989, and you could get rid of your carb (if that is your intention).
I've already been in contact with KRC Performance and other places and they have told me that they can polish out my 1989 TBI for about $300 for hi perf. In fact, I bought a reman one from Holley, just like new with the injectors and some of the sensors off eBay, so I have an extra one in case I decide to rebuild my engine or simply build me a truck. I have the whole TBI sitting in my house.
