My Dakota won't start. Sparks are firing. Changed the distributor cap and rotor...still no start. Changed the battery...nothing...changed the pick up coil and it started. Next day it still started and then the following day it won't start. Changed the pick up coil again...drove the car home and then back to work...pick up won't start again!!!! Anyone know what could cause this?

have the starter and the solanoid checked to see if there working properly. somtimes when either starts to go bad they will only occasionally work and then die for good.

thanks will check on the starter since I replaced the pick up coil again and it still won't start. The ignition coil tested out okay too....

the starter's good...changed all the spark plugs...the gaps were too big~ still won't turn. There's lots of power and it wants to turn over, just can't. I know there's something simple I am missing! This is driving me nuts been working on this for too long on too little sleep.

Try checking the auto shutdown relay. This supplies power to the coil and engine sensors. some times when mine wont state pulling and reseating this relay clears up the problem
