Has anyone done any upgrading in the way of hood scoops? I have heard that there are hood scoops that bring in fresh cold air for the engine, and there are hood scoops that draw out the hot air from the engine and out of the engine compartment. Is this right? Does a hood scoop do anything besides look cool?

I needed my scoop because my filter was too tall for the hood.

I installed my Cowl Induction hood to get cooler air into the engine compartment...and it made a 15 degree difference (15 degrees cooler under the hood with the Cowl Hood). And the Cowl hoods work excellent at anything over 45mph. :)

How do you know it dropped the temperature by 15 degrees??? How can that be detected?

Also, do I have to cut a big hole in my hood, or buy an aftermarket hood if I want a scoop? I've never done it before and I think they look cool, but I also want the job done right the first time.

I took a saw to the hood but you dont have to. They sell hoods you can get that are fiberglas. They are a little more expensive than the $30 scoop I got from Jegs. I had to cut the hole, bond it in, rivot it in, then repaint the hood. It took about a day including the 6 or 7 coats of paint and clear coat.

I am looking for any info regarding the possibility of purchasing a 69 super bee type of hood scoop { that came with the lift off hood } for my 2000 dodge dakota. I tried measuring one, and it took up most of the hood. I am looking for one that is similar in size to my dakota. Thanks

I grab air right off the hood.

and blow it down a K&N Exstream 14" top

I taped a temp senser radio shack thermo and was
reading 120 to 125 underneith the air cleaner.
over 40 mph it droped to 100 over 60 95 so I know
I am getting cold air with the scoop.

Very noticeable over 50mph

I bought a functional ram air hood from suncoastcreations.com. It was expensive, around $800 with the K&N air kit and delivery to VA. But it came out looking bad a$$. They have pics on the website. Check it out.
