Subject: Flex-A-Lite Fans

Hey guys,

I'm aware that getting a lighter fan or replacing the primary engine fan with an electric one can equal some respectable performance gains for the cost. I'm trying to decide If a Flex-A-Lite fan is the way to go or a complete electrical installation. Electrical would be more effecient but I'm affraid they don't make them big enough to cool down a 4.7 V8. Any suggestions?

The Black Magic fan is just about the best thing going for electric fans. Easy to install, thermostatic control, and draws plenty of cfm. Should have no trouble cooling your truck. Be Cool also makes some very nice dual fans that should work well and would probably fit better with the larger Dak radiator. Check the Summit Racing catalog, or the Be Cool web site.

I am also considering a fan swap but the only problem i have is i need a fan to cool 400+ hp. I plan on swapping in a 408 or 440 in the next 1.5yrs any ideas that would be cost efective and cool that much power

Thanks

Cooling efficiency depends on a variety of factors, one of which is air flow. For 400+ hp, a dual fan set up with a quality shroud should work very well; assuming the rest of the system is well designed.

Spal offers a dual 11 inch that should fit nicely. It flows 2600+cfm.

John,

Are you mounting your fan out back?

The main thing that I see with our trucks is the space b/w the motor and radiator. (At least in Gen IIs like my (and John's) 92.

When I measured the space, it was either 4.25 or 4.5 inches. I can't remember.

Here is a link to the dimentions:

Wait a minute here!

You said a 4.7, the motors that come with TWO fans, one belt driven, one electric, right? right.

Now I know you've seen all the posts on this subject, and that with the exception of a few who have too much time on their hands, that, even with mods, auto, manual, etc., just taking off the stink'n belt driven clutch/fan, and relying on the elec. ONLY, Without and electrical system mods, works just fine!

Now, there are some that thick that pulley will some how come off. So, (too much time on there hands thing)even went as far as removing the fan blades, and reinstallin the clutch, which, IS most of the rotating mass you're trying to get rid of in the first place!

Remember, he DID say 4.7, right?

Sometimes, you just gotta believe!

I for one, haven't had my needle over half way, and always runs just to the right of the first hash mark. 180 t-stat, 5spd manual.

Oh yea, and it always hot in these parts of the country.

Waste your money, or just believe, it won't do you wrong.
Oh by the way, do you have air conditioning on that there 4.7? Well then, anytime it's on, not just the compressor now, the electric fan is on!

Do you sit in traffic alot, or leave it parked idling, kinda like I do while my children sleep in the a/c, sometime for hours, with NO belt driven clutch fan, in 100F? And it NEVER goes to halfway, with no added anything
