Subject: 2001 DAK and SyntheticsI IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 4.7 DAK, AWD/Limited-Slip/5 speed auto.
Already running Royal Purple synthetic motor oil and now want to put in synthetic tranny and rear diff (T/C) fluid.
My DAK is 2 1/2 years old with 15,750 miles.
Do I need to use Mopar's Friction Modifer?
Does this limited-slip diff already come with synthetic liftime fluid and not beed to be changed?
What is considered the best synthetic product out there I can use for all 3 fluid changes that will promote long life, good protection, and squeeze out some more HP, over other synthetic products?
BTW, I was told the Royal Purple 5w-30 engine oil was too light a oil to use for just street driving, is this true?
Thanks in advance.

Message: I've been looking ay going Synth too and I believe Amsoil is the only synth, other than dealer ,that is ATF4 ,which we need for our trannys (transfer cases only rquire ATF3 ,but might as well go with ATF4).The Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 gear lube doesn't require the addition of "friction Modifier" ,others such as Redline or Royal Purple may not either .In Canada I'm having a B*tch of a time finding Synthetics and Amsoil seems to be the only one available to me other than Dealer stuff thats why most of my post have been spouting Amsoil line.

Message: 1. 5W-30 should be fine depending on temps. Check your owners manual and follow those recommendations. If you use an oil that is heavier than required, you'll cause drag on the engine and some things will wear out sooner - like the oil pump.
2. Synthetics are definatly better than dino in many ways. But some folks still insist on changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. Oil makers love those guys. Again, just follow the service manual.
3. Mobile 1 makes an excellent gear lube for the differential. How long between changes depends on usage. I don't know if it needs a friction modifier or not, so I just add it. My local differential builder tells me Ford makes the best, and he uses it in every diff he rebuilds.
4. Follow the service manual closely for ATF/TC fluid recommendations. Dodge transmissions are very picky about that. To be honest, I hate serviceing automatics. It's a messy pain in the behind. So I always hire that job out to someone who can do a complete flush. Yeah, it costs more. But then I don't have to do it.

Message: Redline has a good synthetic +4 compatible trans fluid. Amsoil is good too, no one has had problems with it.(at least I haven`t heard of any)
It`s not like the mopar +4 is terrible, just exspensive.

Message: Hey Guys, thanks for the feedback...I called my dealer re: if there were factory synthetics in the TC being how I have AWD and LSD and they didn't even know you could buy a DAK w/full time AWD, so I didn't even bother following up w/them on other Qs I had.
Gonna go w/the Amsoli 2000 Series product line of synthetics for my drivetrain.
Now just gotta locate a dealer in my area.
Thanks again for the feedback

Message: Last question, can't seem to find the fluid capacities for my tranny and rear diff (T/C). How many quarts of Amsoil fluid will i need for each?
Thanks in advance
