Subject: True Duals on a 2001 IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 4.7 rc and I was wanting to run true duals straight from the headers. Is this possible or not? The exact plan I wanted was to have the each exhaust connect to each header, then have whatever catalytic converters and o2 sensors that are required on each one, then run it to the back and put a flowmaster on each pipe (single in/dual out)and turn one of them down on each flowmaster and take the other two out each side with 3" tips. By the way, I wanted 2 1/4" pipe throughout the system. So far, all the muffler places have shot me down saying it would mess up the computers and it wasn't possible. I'd like to know what the REAL experts have to say. I'm in Louisiana if it matters.
Thanks,
Jason

Message: more money than smarts! A 4.7 doesn't need all that you would just lose power, just buy a single inlet dual outtlet flowmaster and have the shop bend tailpipes so they exit where you want it

Message: I wasn't doing it for power... I was wanting to do it for noise. I was thinking two flowmasters would be louder than one. I have a single in/dual out with turndowns right now, so I figured that if I kept two of them turned down and put the other two out the side with the tips, it would be all around LOUD. That's what I was shooting for.

Message: I think I posted it earlier (last couple of months) but I probably won't be selling them until next year. I've spent a lot of money and time on them (including patent stuff), but I do not have the capabilities to mass produce them yet. I know that I'd be able to sell literally thousands of sets/units, but I must have a manufacturing facility first. That takes MUCHO time (and again, mucho money)! I will not even attempt to start selling them until I have everything in place (unlike other 4.7L performance companies of the past, who offer things and disappear at the drop of a hat when things start to slow down financially)...

Message: That's great to hear Demon...I give you props for taking your time and doing things right...it's a damn shame so many of these dakota performance parts dealers get in over their head and either unintentionally or in some cases intentionally screw people out of their orders and hard earned money...if you can raise enough capital and do things the right way all the power to you...I for one will wait
P.S. I live in Cali, do long tubes effect emissions much?

Message: I actually have precats installed on mine because removing them didn't make that much difference (an average of 4 HP peak)...
I am running slightly more lean than normal, but that's expected with the massive amount of air I am currently flowing. I'm going to eventually have a "piece by piece" system (all with flanges; gaskets and all the goodies included) that will allow you some customization of the exhaust system. It'll allow you to add or remove the precats, add resonators...etc. Also, I'm designing turbo manifolds and exhausts as well (both single outlet and dual outlet), so that should be fun :)

Message: Deno24: Its because you have an '00 most of the '00's except some of the later ones came with only one cat. Mine's an '00 with only one cat that is now a 2.5" Carsound. That was a nice mod.
Demon: good to hear your going slow with this. Can I go ahead and get on the list for the full exhaust? Headers to tips? Just kidding...I'll wait like everybody else.

Message: One of the biggest hurdles is the emission laws. Before changing anything, be sure and check with the local emission inspector. In my area (CO), you can change a lot of stuff, but still have to meet federal emissions standards and laws. Primarily, you can't change the design, number, or location of the cats. You're stuck with whatever the factory did. You can't even change them at less than 50K miles unless there is a problem with them.
If I lived and worked 20 miles west of here, it wouldn't matter.

Message: Well, I'll be past 50K miles REAL soon, so that's not really an issue with me. Plus, the reason I'm making a "modular" exhaust system is so you can add cats/resonators/whatever to get legal. I wonder how inspectors feel about a flanged cat assembly...
