Subject: 4.7 Manual or Automatic? IP: Logged
Message: I just ordered a 4.7 CC Sport 5 speed. I've heard some say that they would take the new automatic over the 5 speed. I am looking for speed and power. My common sense tells me that the 5 speed will kill the automatic but I also dont' know how far automatic technology has come along. Did I do good by ordering the 5 speed?

Message: Any automatic will always have more driveline HP loss than a manual trans. No way around that...but yes, they are much more efficient than the "Good Old Days" transmissions.

Message: I was going to get the auto with the muti-speed tranny, but then it first came out it had some problems with it. So I decided to go with the 5 speed, first of all it's a heavy duty tranny, second it's a little better on gas, third in slippery weather you have better control, but nothing beats banging gears with this 4.7. Excepted maybe traffic, don't worry in my opinion you picked the right choice.

Message: Running through the gears on my Dakota is one of my favorite things. I think you will enjoy your truck with the 5 speed much more.

Message: I've got the 4.7 5-speed and other than the clutch going out every 10,000 miles the truck is a blast to drive.

Message: Ok, other than Solar4.7, my stock clutch is fine with over 80k on the odometer. 5 speed was a good choice.
