Subject: Low RPM Grind?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey guys. I don't have a brother to ask so help me if you can.
I recently bought a '99 4cyl/5 spd with 35K miles. I get a noise that is like the grind or whine described in another topic but mine is different. It is a loud "sandy" sort of buzz that only comes when I shift at low RPMs, like when I stop completely and shift into 1st gear, unless I hold down the clutch a little while accelerating the buzz is right there. Also when I shift into a gear at a lower speed (like shifting at 15mph into 2nd gear, or at 20something mph into 3rd gear, etc...) so is this a vibration thing? You know the deep bass sound you'd here at this point? I get the bass but it is simultaneous with the buzz.
In the morning or for the first few miles of the day it's not there. But soon enough it begins and I'm forced to accelerate with more clutch than normal or else my car buzzes like a bitch.
The tow hitch nob thing, is well used and bent as if the owner before me towed alot...
Bearings? Transmission? Gears? Help!!!

If you push in on the clutch slightly does the noise go away or stay? IF it does ot might be be the throw out bearing. You might have the transmissin fluid level checked. If it's low it could cause funny noises.

Jennifer, You might want to post this on the v6 board. Larry from J&J Auto is a valuable resource for problems. he has his own shop, but shares his advise freely. Besides, I have seen more females post on thd v6 board. Larry for J&J Auto only post's on the v6 board.

Yes!!
Wadak!!

I think you're on to something
That buzz goes away when the clutch is down or until the RPMs match the momentum, but yes.

A friend had mentioned bearings might be the culprit.

Is this a devastating problem? Not to procrastinate but how long do I have until something worse happens?

Thanks!!!
