Subject: Odd questions... IP: Logged
Message: Alright, two fairly odd-ball questions:
I've read from a Turbo-Dodge forum that the 2.2L and 2.5L engines are nearly identicle to the engines used in the the turbocharged 4 cylinder cars. Question that's been plauging me, is: Are the motor mounts in the RWD format on the Dakota's?
Nexk: How strong is the stock Dakota axle for the original Dakotas?

Message: The 2.2/2.5 FWD engines have nothing in common with the 2.5 engine in the Dakota. Nothing at all. Mounts are completely different.
Axle is strong enough. The 8.25 Corp will take about 300lbs/ft before snapping.

Message: Okay how about this. Would you be able to takt the turbo and manifold off and get them to work on the 2.5L Dak? I think there would bo a problem with tht fact that one is fwd and the other is rwd, but would it be clos enough to have it possible in a shop?

Message: That is exactly what I have been plotting.
However, I don't see how an engine's head or pretty much anything other than the block (engine mount-points) would be affected.
Ahh well, I suppose the only way to truely know, due to my conflicting information with be to find out for myself.

Message: before putting a turbo charger on a used engine I would go through the bottom end and MAKE SURE everything is PERFECT and even consider a bearing upgrade and if it does not have it and they are available, forged rods and crank. with that said, an bottom end upgrade will last a lot longer then using a stock bottom end in a used block. Just from a guy that used to own a car with a factory turbo, they did those changes before bolting on the blower for a reason.

Message: Slope, I already gotcha on that and Vern, thank you for the info....that alone makes it most conceivable that the heads are swappable, and that the bottom end of a TII Turbo-Dodge might work as well...forged crankshaft, uprated pistons...

Message: 2.5 fwd is overhead cam and a 2.5 dakota is a pushrod engine. None of the parts should be interchangeable.

Message: Not the 2.5, but the 2.2L that was used in the Dakota, I believe in 87 to 89.
