Message: Hey all, I keep hearing alot of people asking about mods and what effect they have on performance. Well I'm not a pro by any meens, but my suggestion is to use a program called Desk Top Dyno. This program is a real kicker. If you know anything at all about port size, cam ratios, etc. This puppy will tell you just about anything about that engine. As well as show you the graphs and charts to track your build and performance. My only other advice for performance and or fuel economy especialy these days @ $1.89 a gallon and up is simple. Efficiancy.... If your Dak or any other vehical is properly running IE Non restrictive intake, throttle body, exhaust, proper tire inflation, good spark and timming, yes you need a proper burn. Than not only will you see better performance, but with a little less pressure on the ole go pedal. You'll also see an improvement in the MPG as well.
Have fun

Message: good job for opening up a year and a half old post Gasper. your v6 is only rated 125 rwhp from the factory. so trust me it will never feel like a stock v8.

Message: it is rated 175 hp at the flywheel. you only have 125 at the rear wheels with an auto. i have a v6 as well and i have done some extensive research on here and other sites and that is just the way it is. i also have a flowmaster40 series single in and dual out. sounds great. i love my truck but damnit dodge coulda have put more ponies in the v6 for our trucks to be so heavy.

Message: Not to be a dick or anything. But when I hear a Flowmaster (or similar) on a V6, the one thing it does for SURE is let everyone know (by the sound) you got a V6 (if you don't have the V6 badging).
They sound ok at an idle. But when you touch the gas, instead of the RUMBLE, you get some wooo V6 sound. Hard to describe it in words.
When I bought my truck, I refused anything but a V8 even when the wife couldn't understand why it "HAD to be a V8" when we found something we liked but didn't have a V8. :)
I put a flowmaster on a V6 of mine before and for my friend on two different V6's. I know beter than to do that again.

Message: Hey. I can say I've tried lots of stuff that didn't work or actually made something worse!!!
That is how you get experience!!!!
Go to my website and look at all the attempts with a Flowmaster I did trying to make my wife's Chrysler Cirrus sound better!
We don't have the car any more. But I still have pictures and sound clips. It started by me cutting off some "useless" resonators before the muffler.
Them resonators must have been there to hide the fart can sound that Mitsubishi V6 makes!!!!
Then for a while I was bolting in a Flowmaster in several different locations to try to make it sound BETTER.
Wound up throwing a Holly brand muffler on it and a GLASSPACK in the middle to get it to sound like STOCK!
My wife was embaressed to drive her fart can sounding car when I installed the Flowmaster on it!
Thank God the 4.7 V8 sounds so damn good with a Flowmaster :)

Message: well i couldnt afford a v8 at the time and now with gas the way it is i dont regret buying a v6. as for the sound of it it sounds just like a 5.9 rt with a flowmaster on it. i parked mine next to my buddys rt and we both revved it up and they sounded the exact same. and these words arent coming from just me. we had another guy standing behind our trucks to do the comparo. he was the one who couldnt tell which one uf us was revving it up.

Message: Interesting.
This guy up the street had a nice white R/T look alike with the ground effects and everything, Lowered, etc etc... and an exhaust.
I knew the first time I heard it that it was a V6 :)

Message: I've heard a few trucks with an exhaust on say a Chevy 4.3 or Dodge 3.9 start and had a hard time telling for a second at an idle if it was a V6 or V8.
But as soon as the throttle is touched, you can definitely tell the difference from a V6 to a V8 no matter what exhaust is on it.
V8's juat have probably the best sound I think. Even better than V10's. Must be the seperation in pulses or something.
Someone would have to have a lack of a "trained" ear to not tell the difference.

Message: it was a 5.9 rt and they did sound the same. no bullsh$t. maybe some of us dont have the dispencible funds to just throw around and i am one of those. i had to save for about 2 months just to put my exhaust on. i know the difference between a rt and a look alike. we have been working on his rt for a while before i even bought my truck. the only difference in sound between his and mine is that he has a turndown and i have it straight out the back. his truck can still whoop my a$$ but thats not what i bought my truck for. if i wanted to go fast, i would have bought a fast car. but just like the rest of you on here i wanted a dakota. my main focus for my money is my bad a$$ '85 jeep cj7.
