Subject: O2 sim install/cat removal? IP: Logged
Message: I really appreciate this board for so much help when you really need it. I've got an O2 sim, is the plug screwed into the pipe and will it just plug up or does it need to be wired? Also heard it's not worth removing the cat without alot of other mods, TB, MP1, headers, cause the back pressure is good for the avg engine. Should I wait till headers to cut the cat or will it help now. (kidding)It's not like I need more power, I just got a ticket on the way to work for a 65 in a 35, but he dropped it to 55, from a stoplight, stopped he caught me speeding in just 1 1/2 blocks on US 1. I told him I just hit the pedal to the floor cause some jack a was swerving into me, and I didn't feel like gettin hit again.
Anyway please help, I live in FL, no emissions testing, I know it's a federal law about the the cat removal though.
Thanks

Message: I have an 01' 4.7 5 spd. with the 3 cats. Do I need the 02 simm's? What exactly happens when the post 02 sensors go out? Is it just a light that comes on?

Message: im not sure on the 4.7 either. the 97-00 daks with a 318/360 (all i know of) have 4 sensors. 1 in each downpipe and a pre cat and post cat. all the post cat sensor reads is how efficient the cat is...lookin for clean air in english. so taking the sensor completely out lets that sensor get clean air...thus sayin its ok!!

Message: Makes sense Jake, I think I'll try it, can't hurt. I've got the O2 sim ready to return, so no problems. I'm still not convinced removing the cat converter is going to give me more power, I've heard the backpressure is actually good for the avg engine without rockers, intake, TB and headers. What do U think?

Message: you WILL gain about 8-10 rwhp doing so. it will also increase the exhaust sound, which is why most do it. but when u gain, u have to lose. prolly lose a lil bit of off the line tq. i will tell you i run open exhaust at the track and it gives me .1 and 1mph gain. on the dyno it was 9rwhp and 4rwtq. but remember thats is PEAK numbers..not off the line
