Subject: dyno results for my 4.7lt!!! IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys,
Just letting all of you know the dyno results of my quad cab dak.
It's a 4.7lt auto 3.55 open rear end.
mods: ns performance cold air intake, and I had the cut out before the 3rd cat uncapped.
211 rwhp
292 rwtq
253 hp at the engine w/20% drive terrain loss
350 tq at the engine w/20% drive terrain loss
tq#'s might have been higher with the cut out capped, but I didn't want to take up to much time during the dyno getting under the truck to cap it off.
That's about a 20 rwhp gain and a 27 rwtq gain based on Demon Dakota's stock run of 191 rwhp and 265 rwtq.
2001 quad cab 4.7lt 3.55 open diff.
reflexions cowl hood, ns performance air intake, cut out before 3rd cat, single in dual out magnaflow dumped, lakewood traction bars

Forgot to add that the first pull on the dyno I hit the speed limiter at 100mph @ 4200 rpm. So on the 2nd pull I did the key trick to bypass it. The guy doing the dyno looked at me like I was crazy when I told him to turn the key like you would when you start the truck and hold it when he got to 95 mph. I was kinda scepticle to being that I had never tried it myself, but it worked. Had it dynoed all the way up to 120 mph @ 5200 rpm's.

Message: Damn dude, that is freakin' awesome for your mods! Congrats on the good run!! So far with the 2nd set of test headers (1 3/4" primary tubes), I have had a peak of 252.6 RWHP at 5000 RPM. Torque is getting ever better at 326.8 at 3100 RPM peak. The TQ and HP curve is really getting FAT and FLAT across the entire RPM band. I'm thinking of pulling the heads and putting in larger valves and doing a little porting and some valve angle work to really get the flow where I want it. I think I can easily get 300 RWHP once I get an ECU flash (or maybe even a stand alone engine management system) and get everything done (like finalizing headers, replacing the stock pistons, connecting rods, and getting a forged crank). I actually thought that the peak HP would be at a higher peak RPM, but to my surprise, it actually dropped from the first set of test headers. Same with the torque. Of course I'll keep you guys informed of my progress. All the rain has kinda been slowing us down since we mostly install and work on the truck outdoors for better lighting.

Message: demon,
Those are damn good #'s your putting up. Was thinking about getting the h.o.cams, but I think that I am going to wait on waltherone to get his KRC cams put in and dynoed, to see which add the most hp and tq. Then when I get the money, gears are next. 4.10 ls. I've been seeing the post about turbo charging and how some guys are only having to fork out $600-$900 for everything needed to do it. That's a hell of a lot cheaper than a S.C. Just kinda want to see how the 4.7lt holds up to the boost of a turbo or twin turbo. Who do I need to talk to about that Duner?

Message: It'll cost a lot more to turbocharge it though if you can't do practically ALL of the work yourself. If you don't know anyone that will weld things up for you (if you can't yourself) and things like that, all that crap adds up quick.

Message: Then again maybe not. Read into it a little more in old postings, and I think I'm still gonna just do the 100 shot. I can definatly do that for around $500. If installed and used right I think it's still the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

Message: i think dodge purposely underrated the torque on our 4.7's just so the 5.9's wouldn't have their feelings hurt so bad...seriously Waltherone's dyno with just an intake and removed clutch fan was at 288rwtq and dakotman4dr at 292rwtq with just an intake and capped cat, I find it hard to believe those guys started out with 295 lbs at the crank and after one or two simple mods bumped it up to 350 lbs at the crank...no wonder STOCK 4.7's do so well against STOCK 5.9's...I know I know modding changes things up a bit...but for us simple folk who don't endless funds to mod I damn pleased with the performance of my 4.7 compared to the 5.9

Message: The 4.7L would never work in a FWD platform due to it's excellent torque band. That FWD platform would be breaking motor mounts left and right. If Dodge would make a RWD 2/4 door platform (midsize) and offer a 5 speed manual or the 5 speed 45RFE auto, they'd probably sell the crap out of the car. They need to make a car like the Charger or Dart...something like that!

Message: dakotaman4dr:
i'm in the process of turbo'ing a 4.7. parts are significantly above 900 at jobber cost. not to mention all the labor and fabbed stuff. turbo, wastegate, pipes, intercooler, fmu, fuel pump, injectors, etc.
if you come by someone that can turbo one (intercooled and >5psi) let me know and I'll buy one. otherwise with the raw materials and MIG welding skills, you could probably turbo one for 900 or less without intercooling it and limiting it to 5psi of boost.

Message: From what Ive read around here, Duner has safely run 6 to 10 pounds of boost for over a year with stock internals. Making the switch from 6 for street use, to 10 on the track with higher octane fuel.
Granted he has it tuned correctly, ie: water/propane injection, intercooled, yakity smakity.
So Id feel safe with a modest 5-6 pounds of boost. That should get you in the happy 14's easy. Im also reasearching everything to turbo my 4.7 soon.
Hey Idaho, what turbo you planning on using?

track, has mild head work and ECM tuning
Dasmack, if I were you I would seriously
consider the Nitrous route. custom Turbo's
no matter how skilled you are take months of
tuning to get it to run right and the underhood
temps are a nightmare. for an everyday driver
a custom turbo would not be the best way to
go. For $500 you can pick up a NX kit and get
the same gains as a turbo or supercharger.
Most of the meanest R/T's are running
stronger internals and 150 shots. with the
right setup:
cold air intake
HO cams
HO manifold
full 3" exhaust (no cats)
slicks
75-100 shot
you could easily be looking at 13's and all for
cheaper than a custom turbo

Message: daksmack,
we wanted to go with a Garret T40 but couldn't get a hold of one as nobody had them in stock. We have a Turbonetics 60-1 sitting in the shop right now. Part of the plumbing is done and the intercooler shipped yesterday. I'm hoping it will be breathing life in a couple of weeks.

Message: Jason, the $900 tag is from azdak. He doesn't post here much, but he fabricated an entire system (with intercooler) from almost ALL E-bay parts. Not including labor (because he did it all himself), he only had $900 in parts. Currently he is not running any more than 5-7 psi, but I think it's primarily a daily driver that sees minimal track action.
Duner, on the other hand has spent a hefty chunk while blazing the entire trail himself. I don't know money figures, but he is currently able to run 14-16 psi and with his mods & driving, is able to turn 12.2's at 113 and that's at a density altitude of 6000'. The NHRA correction factors only go up to a DA of 5400'. So, if that's any indication, once it cools off in Phoenix, he'll be in the 11's for sure.

Message: Demon Dakota, I didn't mean put it in a FWD. Gross. A FWD V8, that would be complete sh!t. I just like the Stratus body (2001-2002). I think it would loook nice with a 4.7L and 5spd.
